My first attempt at Lucid Dreaming

Hi everybody. My friend talked with me about how he had lucid dreams and flew and everything. I googled it and this site popped up. I read all the tutorials (basically everything) and attempted lucid dreaming last night.

I laid down in bed. Just repeated to myself in the head:
      1, I will lucid dream
2, I will lucid dream and so on

At around 70 I couldn't move my body. It felt really strange but after 5-10 seconds I could move my hand.
I fell asleep shortly after that and in the dream, I was sitting on a toilet when an unknown woman flew through the door and looked at me. I got embarassed and yelled at her. That's when I woke up. I grabbed a pen at once and wrote it down on a paper.

Any advice on reality checks and other stuff?

      //Brian

You are certainly are on the right track. Sometimes lucid dreaming can be a long way from sleep paralysis, and sometimes it's the very next step. Sleep paralysis is what you were creating when you could not move your limbs. Forcing your arm to move ended the sleep paralysis, lucid dream, or both. This is not necessarily a good or bad thing. Sleep paralysis, while sometimes fascinating, can be quite frightening to the unprepared.

The fact that you had a dream of someone coming in and invading your space is one of the things that is almost creepy to me, only because it happens so often to different people.

Often, when I am trying to induce lucid dream in a new way, especially if I'm too intense about my effort to do so, I will have dreams of people coming in the room.

If you google the "old hag" you will get stories of people seeing an old woman who comes into their room and sits on their chest, making it hard to breathe during sleep paralysis. This is of course a hallucination or half dream caused by the sleep paralysis, but to me, the fact that multiple people report the same thing, is creepy.

It's the same kind of spookiness that I feel when I hear about a particular mushroom that causes anyone who trips on it to see the same face, of an ancient god. Or the fact that 80% of people who trip hard on diphenhydramine see spiders in their trips... why spiders?

Anyway, good work and keep it up. You're on the right track.

Alright, thanks. But any advice on reality checks?

      Sure.
Pick something that you see every day, or do every day.
Everytime you piss, ask yourself "Am I dreaming?"
Do not get in the habit of answering immediately. Take the time to look around and think about it before you answer yourself.
Everytime you pass through a doorway ask yourself "Am I dreaming?"
Everytime you get to school/work as yourself "Am I dreaming?"
Everytime you find yourself passed out and naked in an alley with yogurt smeared all over you, and a crown on your head... wait forget that part.
