Smile The very first lucid dream of my life! First time I share online!

The title is already exciting. Even more exciting is that I never forgot the experience (well, how could I not remember right? after all I was in total awe)

      I don't remember the year it was (I'm guessing the 90's) (I'm 36).

Ok, so I was sleeping on my bed at grandma's house. I lived with her for 4 years in Brazil, while my parents where in the US (some time between 1991 and 1995).

      And this was the LD:

I was walking in front of my "same" grandma's house on a non pavemented street (it was like this in real life back in the days). I remember it being daytime with lots of sunshine. I was looking ahead of me. Then I found something to be unreal: I saw some grasses on the street that I knew didn't belong there, (I found it strange and I was like: hummm... but even so I did not realize I was dreaming. The next thing I know, as I stepped a couple of steps forward, all of a sudden (in the blink of an eye), it became night time (I could see on the floor the straight horizontal black shade of the night in front of me). So as I stepped into the shade of night, all of my surrounding became night. Then I'm like: huh? but it was daytime just now... It then hit me: "I must be dreaming!". The funny thing was that I was looking to find out if I was indeed dreaming (looking for a reality check) but nothing came to mind as to how I'd go about that. Well, I kept walking "faster" to see if I saw something else, and saw at a certain distance a bar. (remember, it was night) I then had a second feeling that I was dreaming because there were no such bar in real life close to grandma's house. Now as I went into this crowded bar, I saw some people dancing while others were drinking and/or smoking. There was music playing but I guess I never knew what song or did not seem to care. So what did I do next? I looked at the bar's wall and thought: this is it (the reality check) so I put my back against the bar's wall and thought, let me bang my head back "not so strong of course" and see if I feel any pain. If I don't, then I know for sure I'm dreaming. As I did it, no pain! It gave me total confidence and excitement as I knew then that it was really a dream I was in. Then, I wanted to get out of the bar asap to see what I could do in the outdoors, (and since bars are not my thing anyways), and it then became a cloudy afternoon as I found myself in this pavemented "asphalt" street. Then guess what? the first thing that came to my mind was: I wanna fly!!! yes, so I ran in the middle of the street and threw myself in the air... and voyla! I was flying... There's no words to describe the excitement as I looked down the scenery. Then from this point on I can't really remember "now" what happened next (if I got to land down again, or what) but my dream ended fading away slowly. After I woke up, I was stunned in awe. I believe this happens to all first timers. The craziest thing is that I never knew about LDs and never heard of that from no one. I was just a teen. I also thought to myself: Why now? why did this not happen for all these years of my life? I mean all these "almost 20 years or so" and I never realized while in a dream that everything around me was a dream, until that first time! So I was very confused and wondering as well if I would have more LDs in the future (and of course I was yearning for a Yes! and so it did). That first LD day, I told my grandma, and she was like: aham! (like, yeah what b.s. not believing me). I have had countless LDs until today and never did any exercises neither I knew there were any. What I was most curious of for a long time after that was if anybody else ever had LDs. I was like: Did this ever happened to someone? then later while searching about it, I found that it was not a very common thing, but there were other people that have experienced it too. Then I was happier to know "online" all the many wealth of information about LDs and even lucid dreaming masks etc... Amazing! I was googling about lucid dreaming and came across this site and decided to join and share my experiences for the first time and join the many happy people who also experience this awesome thing! I'll come back later to share some more LDs I had. thanks for viewing.

Wow, it sounds like you had quite an amazing experience. And welcome to Dream Views.

Just a thought though. You said if you felt no pain then you were dreaming. That is not going to be a failproof test (probably not) as if you believe you will feel pain then you will. I had a dream in which something that should have hurt did not. Once I had the thought I then felt the pain.

Just a thought though. But if it works for you and causes you to have sweet dreams, than go for it!

      FUnny head bangin, lol.

I see! well I know it was a weird reality check within that dream. It was my first though on a first LD + I never knew LDs existed before that first dream, which is why I was all confused, like: how did I do that? how is this possible?
Now a days I've been dreaming many times about storms, like lighning and hurricanes and dust devils, planes falling from the sky, flying saucers and many vivid memorable dreams. ( I guess I could call these nightmares) and I also guess that it's my mind complaining to me that it wants to LD + for me to stop sleeping around 2am or over. I found out for my self that if I get a good night's sleep and happen to wake up before the regular time and go back to sleep a second time, most of the time an LD happens.

What you just mentioned there is called the Wake Back To Bed (WBTB) technique. Sleep for a while, get up for a bit, return to sleep. Good job. Doing something similar to that on alternating days is also known as the CAT. (Cycle Adjustment Technique). You're on the right track!

You can also combine the WBTB technique with consciously enter SP and hopefully move right into a WILD. (Wake Induced Lucid Dream).

Sounds like it will go well with you.
