What type of dream is this?

I have very real dreams, I'm assuming they are "Vivid" because if I do realize I'm dreaming, it's at the end. This one happened about a year ago. I didn't know I was dreaming until woken up I was at my parent's house and there was loud banging at the front door like people were trying to get in, like a home invasion or something but they were trying to break the door down. It felt like we were running from something or someone and we quickly rushed to the car in the driveway. I found myself in the car with my mom in the front seat with me and a beautiful little girl in the back, I'm assuming she was supposed to be my daughter (I don't have kids) ? Anyway I realized my dad wasn't in the car, and I told my mom and the girl to wait while I went to get him. I ran back inside and my dad was sitting on the couch watching the door, waiting for the intruders to get in. He saw me and said he was sorry, then hit himself over the head with something that looked like a glass bottle of cologne or something. I ran to him but he was already dead and I started screaming. I went back to the car and tried to tell my mom what happened...then my boyfriend woke me up- I was crying and screaming. It was SO real that I was totally freaked out and drove to my parents' house to make sure they were okay. They were, but were pretty shaken up when I told them about the dream. What do you think?

Dreams can definitely sometimes seem very real. Sounds like you had a vivid nightmare and the fact that you were woken up quickly means that it stayed fresh in your mind and the emotions from the dream carried over into your waking life. The same thing has happened to me as well and it is quite unnerving, especially when it involves something very important to you like family. Oh and welcome to dreamviews by the way!
