      TIME

Got something for you guys to check out in your Lucid Experiences. I've asked several of my Lucid Friends to do this and the results were all the same. Im not sure why this is but as in Life I believe everything as a valid reason. Next time you guys go Lucid check your Wrist, chances are you will have a watch there. Even if you do not wear one you will have some for of time inscripted near you. For those of you who wears a watch on a consistent basis you will always 100% of the time carry this watch over into your dream. For those of you who do not you will see something in regards to time somewhere in your visual vicinity. Give it a try let me know what happens!

I don't wear a watch but I do notice clocks in dreams a lot, mostly when I am in my house or another house though. I have a question though, is it just me or are most clocks in dreams digital? A lot are in real life anymore, but its almost always digital in my dream. I wonder if anyone here who wears a normal watch gets a digital watch in their dream heh.

Maybe I'm strange but I don't wear watches, waking or dreaming. Nor do I notice any clocks or time pieces or does anything appear on my wrist. I'm sure it's different for each person...most people can't read in dreams, but there are few who can. Me? I don't know...never tried it.

It's long time since I have seen you, ShadowNightWing- good to see you again! :yumdumdoodledum:

I will look carefully on a clock some minutes, right before I go to bed. I hope I can have a dream about looking on a clock in the first place then. (Since I don't remember looking at clocks in my dreams.)
      Are you dreaming?

If you ask someone to check their wrist for a clock in a lucid dream, and tell them to suspect there is one, there will be one. That's just part of the nature of a dream.

On the other hand, time does seem distorted in dreams. If time is flying but you're not having fun, you're probably dreaming.

Just last night there was a clock in my dream. It wasn't digital, and it read 8:15. I was late for something.... it was either work or basketball practice. But when I did really wake up, I thought I was still late, (I have to be at work at 8am), and it was only 7:13... wheew, relief.

I seldom notice clocks in my dreams - although usually its unusual when I do (eg I remember one time it said '07:00FM' )
      I don't wear a watch, so I'll try it out - I think you're theory/observation is quite sound

      SHADOWNIGHTWING!!!!!

Where the heck have you been, man!!!! We've been missing you over here!!! It's been really really long since I last saw you around here...

I haven't ever had the intention of noticing my wrist for this reason, but I do remember in my first LD since I can remember(way before I learned what LDing was) I looked at my wrist and the watch I had lost a couple days ago was on it. This made no sense, of course, so I realized it was a dream....

I hope to see you around here more often man, we used to have great times with you around...

tell your sister to drop by too....we need you both here!!!
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

I've heard so many things on this topic... personal experience is rather lacking though. The most common 'wives tale' (is it?) that I've heard is that you may have a clock, digital or otherwise in the dream but you'll never be able to read the time on it.

I've never been lucid enough to check. However, out of all my vivid recalls, I don't once recall checking the time. Time has no bearing in my dreams whatsoever, the one I had the other night went thru day and night about four times in the period of about... 20 minutes. Once again, I don't remember if I was wearing a watch... I've heard of this being used as a reality check tho, too! A wrist watch anyways.

It's definitely possible to read the clock. I've done it. It's just that time does weird things. When you look at the clock again, it might be hours in the future. I had three clocks set up by my bed in one dream, cuz I realized two of them were completely inaccurate. As it turns out, there was a good reason for that.

Like other lucid dreaming topics, this isn't a black/white area.
Everyone has slightly different experiences in their dreams
Eg. I can read fluently, and some others can't

I've also read a watch correctly in a dream, but like simonster, the passage of time seems to be a giveaway.

Yeah, there's a few threads on that.
IMO, it's got to do with what your brain manages to achieve in the 20 minutes
You could have a vivid 5 minutes, or a crap 1000 years. The more brain activity and detail you put into it, the better.
Of course, dreams often waver between vividness / crapness (new term )

Like movies.. they don't show you how the family takes 15 minutes to drive to the shopping mall
You dreams also skip the boring bits and create the illusion of the passage of time

Yeah, I follow you completely, but this was between one geographical region and another type difference, not lost passages of time. The linear effect was vivid and uninterrupted, just the environment in which it took place modified itself at will. In other words while I was running from point a to b, none of the journey was skipped, the sky just changed every 40 feet or so.

I'm going to go see if I can find some of those other threads. There's still forums here I've been wary to tread as of yet haha. /information overload, my bookmark list has gained 10lbs of fat* in the past two days alone

Edit: *those are, umm monounsaturated fats, of course.

      Hehe..

About the time thing - another factor is that your brain can work quicker in a dream, simply because all the sensory input crap is left out
The stuff you visualise skips the step of intepretation of your physical senses

      That already speeds things up...

In my first lucid dream I actually got something done I checked my watch to be absolutely sure it was a dream (so I didn't seriously embarrass myself.) It said 2:54. I was confused because I was sure it was a dream... that was until I noticed when the number changed it swung out like flipping a card. My sister checked her watch in a dream once and she said it was a question mark.
Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.

I'm sorry you had to face all that, but it's good to see that you are still standing after all. A lot of things have happened since you last came by....the forum was even out for close to a month . I don't even know where to start....

I'll wait for your PMs, and I hope you start dropping back every now and then...and tell your sister to do the same, whenever you get in touch with her. I presume she's probably rather busy, but lets hope she isn't busy enough to say hi every once in a while.

Nice to hear from you again...
