More Realistic than Real Life

So I had the lucid dream a while back, where I was standing in this empty parking lot. Nothing really happened, it was short. I woke up quickly. What I remember was how amazingly realistic it was. Much more realistic than even real life. Everything was so clear and crisp. I can't really describe it. Dream HD. I guess. I was laying in bed one morning and saw little bits and pieces of dreamlets and I noticed they were also very, very clear. Just like the parking lot dream. I've talked to my friend about this. He lucid dreams almost every night because he's narcoleptic and goes into SP often. He says he's had plenty of dreams in HD. So anyway, I've read that blind people who've been blind since birth don't dream visually, but have auditory dreams. I'm not sure if this is true, I just read it somewhere, but it makes sense. I've also heard that a blind people who hasn't always been blind but becomes blind later can have visual dreams. So, what I see here is this. What your brain takes in, it can output in the form of a dream. How then, could I and my friend have dreams that are so amazingly clear and different looking than real life since everything we take in is less than that. Just thought I'd pose the question, see if anyone else had had dreams like this or answers.

Hi Funkyoshi, I know what you're talking about. I have that sometimes too where the dream is just unbelievably clear and reminds me of HDR photography. For those who don't know what that is, I'm referring to High Dynamic Range imaging which is a special technique used to produce digital photos and the result looks like this or this... I am so into HDR photography simply because looking at the pictures it produces me reminds me of dreamscapes. One way I know to quickly get your dream to look like the above photographs is some advice that Wolfedreamer531 once gave me which is simply to stop what you are doing and take it all in. In other words, stand still and really look at the dreamscape surrounding you. It really works for me! I've had my dreamscape looking at clear as these pictures. It is a good idea to rub your hands together as you do this as the inactivity of standing still has a slight wake-up-risk. HTHs :-)

Could it be that in a dream, all of your peripheral vision is 100% active in monitoring? So it's not passivly viewing anything. Instewad of having on focal point you can jsut see everythin.

Wow. Dreams are quite cool aren't they. I still wonder what caused my dreams to be that way though. Cause the dream just started and it was all HD. I didn't have to reality check or pay attention to anything ti get it like that. But I'll try what you said and take it all in next time. I should probably note, the dream was a WILD. I hear they can be very vivid.

I should probably note, the dream was a WILD. I hear they can be very vivid. DILDs can be just as vivid as WILDs. DILD and WILD are simply two different ways to become lucid. Once you are lucid the dream can be as vivid as you want, it doesn't matter how you got lucid. Good luck!

One of my most vivid dreams of all time: I was not lucid. I was standing on a grassy hill, amongst many bright green rolling hills, and few trees. The sky was an amazing blue. Now I realize what I was seeing was "dream colors." A hippo died somewhere between the hills in front of me. I did not see the body, but I saw the hippo's spirit float up into the air, like a balloon, very slowly. I looked kind of like soap bubbles, not so vaporous. It had a huge grin on its face, and then it expanded as it rose, and dissipated. I was ecstatic. Everything was so serene, happy, and bright. I was in a good mood all day. I have had other dreams that were very crisp and realistic about being with my ex-wife while I was going through a divorce. I would depressed all day afterward. Emotion seems to be connected to clarity for me. Everything used to always be blurry for me in dreams, which is funny because I wear glasses, and it seemed my subconscious knew I was not wearing them. Recently my dreams have had increasing clarity, especially after I started keeping a dream journal. I love those HD photos, btw. They totally remind me of my vivid dreams. I think whoever said peripheral vision has perfect clarity in a dream is on to something. But, our minds create colors that don't exist... hmm...

I think all our dreams our like that for a certain time. Perhaps thats why we don't feel so inclined to do a reality check or immideatly notice we are dreaming because it feels so real. If dreams weren't so real we would become lucid every night because it would be obvious it was not real and we would pick up on that fast. Instead we usually just accept the dream scape as real and get caught up in what is happening in the dream, rather than the what is happening in of itself is dreaming.

I think dreams feel hyper real because you can create an endless amount of detail. In the case of vision, you are normally limited by what your eyes are actually picking up. In a dream, you will always find the extra detail you are searching for. It is like you can zoom in or out endlessly. You can create new levels of detail that don't exist in real life.

Also, emotions are reflected in the environment around you, in a way that they are not in the waking world. And emotions are often more intense during a dream. The more intense the emotion, the more intense and vivid the dream environment will be. Wow, Dream Queen, I love that cabin, or what ever you call it.

I was reading this book a while back and It was talking about how when Images enter your eyes, you don't actually see those images. You see the images after your brain interprets them. It talked about how your brain omits details and sometimes changes things to fit in with what you believe is real. Like if there was a pile of clothing on your floor and you saw it out of the corner of your eye, thinking it was a cat, for a second you would see a cat or your brain would try to find a cat. But then you see it closer up...and it's just some clothes. It also talked about people who find ways around this function in there brain and can see the raw image data before its tampered with. The people who see this way speak of how amazingly clear and detailed everything is. Maybe we can see that way in dreams. I don't remember which book this was....I need to find it again.

I've had dreams like this, and can confirm everything stated thus far. You have to experience it to truly understand it and to truly grasp the concept. More real than real life... I love dreams like this.

Those are just beautiful... I ran into the same thing yesterday. My eyes have been worsening since my birth, and though I get by with contacts, they still get fuzzy as I look into the distance. Therefore, my whole 'awake world' is slightly fuzzy. I had a lucid dream last night, my first- and I stopped to look around. Everything was in perfect focus. I could see individual grains of sand, even individual snowflakes in the snow that lined the street. I could smell the wet pavement, feel the moist, cool air around me, rushing into my lungs and filling me with a very calm chill. One thing that I love about dreams is that it makes no difference who had the dream and is describing it; It makes no difference how bad they may be at articulating their words; the description that comes from their mouth is poetry in its purest form, and paints a masterpiece that hangs in the air. Could it be that our most vivid dreams are hints of actual heaven? It seems like that at times.

it'd be great when a dream feels more real than real life! I haven't had the experience of one that was truly HD but i do experience more depth or a greater level of sensitivity to the dream world around me. I think it has to do with not being limited by your physical senses. While your mind may not get to experience these things in real life, maybe it shows your mind is more powerful than you give it credit for?

Hi Funkyoshi, I know what you're talking about. I have that sometimes too where the dream is just unbelievably clear and reminds me of HDR photography. oh also, i agree with you completely! HDR photos remind me of LDing too! The added depth and perception, the sense of detail... and I haven't had a perfectly "HD" lucid dream yet! LDs overall seem to have that extra level of consciousness or depth which life doesn't. It's all pretty fascinating stuff!

that's cool. My dreams are almost as realistic as real life. But I still have to work on keeping them vivid and lasting longer.
