      Post Witchcraft and Acid Dreams

Hello everyone, I've been lurking around here for a while but I finally decided to make an account to describe what I just went through. Yesterday, I chose to buy some mugwort to see what kind of effect it really had on my dreaming. I've used calea and melatonin in the past and was and still am interested in experimenting with all the commonly and uncommonly used oneirogens. I'd actually smoked a bit of calea the day before yesterday and I've been having some trouble with insomnia lately, so that night had been filled with lots of restless vivid dreams that each lasted probably around half an hour or so. I attempted to take a nap during the day, but it had the same outcome. For some reason, this still didn't stop me from smoking a blunt filled with mugwort at 9:05 PM last night before deciding to go to bed early at 9:25 PM.

This is where it gets interesting. I know this (probably?) had nothing to do with the mugwort (vividness, intensity, and lucidity aside), rather with the fact that I spent the entire afternoon and evening talking and thinking about psychedelic drugs (especially to my friend "K" who was planning to drop acid soon), but I think the two factors combined in a very unique way that I can truthfully say has me very excited. The following is an in-depth description of the first entry in my new dream journal that I started for my new life in my college dorm.

11:28 PM - As the dream began, I was on my way to a local rave club. Although I wasn't paying much attention at the time, thinking back I believe that I was with "E", a guy I'd met at a weekend driving school class. I was driving the two of us when I mentioned that we needed to make sure we get there soon, before I started tripping. Sure enough, not but a moment later, the trees in my line of sight began to sway and change size and color. My driving became shaky, and I told E we would have to stop so he could drive, but when I looked over he had already fled the vehicle for some reason. Annoyed, I pulled off the road and watched as the scenery dissolved around me. The body high was coming on very strong, and all I could do was sit in the driver's seat and smile. Before long I had some kind of false awakening. I was aware that I had just started tripping on acid in a dream, but I wasn't quite aware enough to realize that I was still in a dream, and was therefore very surprised that my trip was still progressing. For a while all I could do was move around aimlessly in the spinning geometries, but at some point I realized that I was still in my car (although in an entirely different setting), so I drove, still shakily, to a parking spot to rest. I watched the colors melt around me until the sound of one of my suitemates making a thud woke me up.

Shaken as I was by both the sound and the intensity of the dream I had just awoken from, one very outstanding fact did not evade me: the visuals were gone, but I still had a very solid body high. I calmed myself down and wondered how I was going to fall asleep when I felt like I was having a very weak acid trip. I thought about the dream for a while, but pretty soon I was out again, despite my concerns.

12:36 PM - This seemed like much less of a dream and much more of just a trip, plain and simple. I'm not entirely sure if I really reached a fully unconcious state. I was simply watching some interesting closed-eye visuals until I suddenly awoke again. It was similar to a weak DMT-like trip, although with a bit of its own unique style. At this point I accepted that I was probably not done dealing with my insomnia just yet.

1:05 AM - This segment is pretty short, but it's still technically a continuation of the previous dream(s) and it does follow into the next. The dream began with the same visuals returning, then they slowly formed my old room in my house. I was there with my friend "J", and he was tripping, too. Before any story could really be established, I was again awoken by an external sound from one of my suitemates.

2:07 AM - J and I were sitting on my bed with the TV on. At this point most of the swirling fractals and shapes had disappeared and the trip had moved on to a stage consistingly mostly of waves, ripples, and color bleeding. From what I can recall, we were watching some random episode of Spongebob Squarepants, but it made no sense whatsoever. We were just laughing at how the characters and backgrounds were twisting and warping and how the voices were echoing. The longer we watched, the more intense the effects got, and eventually we were starting to get a little overwhelmed. I got up to turn the TV off, but the buttons didn't work. At first this just startled me, but then it hit me: even tripping balls on acid wouldn't stop the TV from working correctly. Suddenly everything about my previous dreams that had led into this one came to me and I became lucid. The echoing voices on the TV were still alarming me (and J, who I still felt for because, imaginary as this version of him was, he was still going through the same thing I was, in my mind), so I pressed the power button again and the TV actually turned off, but I was still hearing lots of ambient trip sounds. I got back on the bed and looked at J, and his face, followed by the rest of his body, began to mutate into some kind of ancient colorful totem pole, and the scenery around him began to morph into an underwater setting with seaweed and floating bubbles, and light shining down from above. This amazed me; the transition was much smoother and more psychedelic than anything I've ever seen while awake, and it occured to me that, logically, psychedelics really should be much more impressive in a world that's entirely controlled by your own thoughts. Laughing, and still mentally involved in the situation, I told J to stare at my face and see if anything happened, and he started describing some pretty interesting hallucinations, although I can't really remember what they are, unfortunately. I decided to try to exert some lucid control, so I looked back in front of me at my feet on the bed, and I tried to shapeshift into another person. The change started to happen, but then the world started bending around me and got sucked into a vortex in the center of my vision. The dream world faded to white, and I woke up.

As I returned to the real world, I now had the lingering body high and an adrenaline rush from the lucid dream, so I gave up on the idea of trying to get back to sleep. I finished recording everything in my dream journal and let my mind wander. Amazingly, the feelings faded and, I guess since I was finally really relaxed, I fell asleep. The dream (recorded at 3:23 AM), however, was not a continuation of those previous, so I don't really feel the need to mention it here; it was just a normal dream. In the end, I'd say this was much more than I could have hoped for for both my first entry in my new dream journal and my first time using mugwort as a dream aid. If you've actually made it this far, thank you for your time.

Thanks! I actually did manage to get some good sleep eventually, too. Just woke up, and feeling pretty refreshed! I also got to log another dream, this time about an imaginary Legend of Zelda game haha.

I think I forgot to mention before that I recently decided to start illustrating my trips and interesting/lucid dreams (thus the title "Psychedelic Artist" and the deviantART link in my signature), so that's one of the reasons I was pretty excited to have this dream. It's a perfect fit for this!
