      Is this possible?

      Hello,

I have recently become intrested in lucid dreaming and have spent several sleepless nights in a row researching it and reading fascinating stories and articles. I'm a first time poster (and reader) to any forum related to dreaming and I have a question...an issue rather that i'd like to know your oppions of.

      Is this possible:

I had a lucid dream when i was five years old. Without knowing what lucid dreaming was, without innitiating the dream, without even trying, i became lucid in a dream when i was five years old. I went to a school called lynbrook elementary in springfield virginia when i was five years old. I attended the school for five months before moving to falls church. Its important that i explain that growing up we moved every other month pretty much, up untill i was 16 we had not lived in one place for more than a year, so this 5 month stint at lynbrook elementary is not significant, i couldnt tell you anything about that school, other than EXACTLY how it looks, to the cracks in the walls by the recess area.

Anyways this school had an after school day care program called SACC, i forgot what that stands for.

      the dream:

I am standing outside with other children and some staff memebers and we are tye-dyeing shirts and eating ice cream from styrafoam bowls, my bowl of ice cream has sprinkles in it. It was bright outside and there were tables with wierd markings on them set up on the basketball court (it didnt strike me as odd in the dream but thats really wierd lol)
I am talking to the teacher about a drawing i did in class and i stop making comments about it and ask if i am dreaming, she says no, and i disagree, i clearly remeber at that point in the dream i said "well i know i dreamin' " at this point my teacher tells me its true, i AM dreaming. I look around and nothing has changed, i ask if im going to wake up and the teacher is no longer there, instead theres a bicycle in her place. I wake up.

      -------

Now tell me, HOW on earth is it possible i had a completly lucid dream at the age of five, without even knowing what a lucid dream was???? I didnt do excersises to innitiate dreams, i didnt record dreams, i didnt tell myself i was gonna have one, i could have cared less back then, as long i wasnt having a nightmare i didnt care about dreams. It just happened out of the blue. In the dream nothing profoundly strange happened that could have been some sort of sign i was dreaming, there was no purple monkey flying around with a tophat on, and at that age it probbaly woulnt have phased me anyways. young children have such active imaginations. I'm curious how and WHY most important, i became lucid and why i remeber it so clearly. I remeber every inch of the scene that it took place in, i barly remeber going to this school yet the scene took place outside of it in back by the recess area and i guarenteee its exactly the same now, as it was 13 years ago when i was in kindergarden, its ENGRAVED into my momory. I remeber even telling my mom about it but she dismissed it, its just so strange for me to think about. Why do i remeber everything so clearly? i think thats why i know it was a lucid dream for sure, and not me dreaming that i thought i was dreaming. ya know?

Sorry to ramble, and i hope someone can give me some feedback .

      stuff about me:

      First of all, welcome!

Now to your question. I don't think it's that unusual, it just means that you're a "natural".

I had my first lucid when I was a little older than that -- maybe 9 or 10. I was having nightmare, being chased by some kind of monster, realized that I had to be dreaming, and woke myself on purpose to escape the monster. I had no idea what lucid dreaming was then either, or that anyone else could be aware of the fact that they were dreaming. I had a handful more of them over the years, sometimes being able to control what was happening, but I didn't ever hear the term "lucid dreaming" until a few years ago (I'm 44 now), and didn't know you could "try" to do it until I joined DV this past November and started reading about the techniques.

I think that the reason you remember it so clearly is simply because you were lucid. When you are conscious of your dream, it's almost as vivid as real life, and therefore the memory is just about as real as anything else you've experienced. It also has probably stuck with you because it was such an unusual experience for you at that time.

Since then, I've gotten better at it, and have learned to control things a bit better.

So stick around -- you'll learn something, and I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself too. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Like TygrHawk said, its nothing unusual. I've been having lucid dreams (but without dream control) since I was 7 or 8, and I thought everyone could do it. I never knew there was even a term for it until a few months ago.

      and welcome to dreamviews.

I think I have had many LD's when I was a little kid. When I was young I had very very very vivid dreams compaired to the ones I have now.
