      Contact with the deceased

Just a quick post before I go to school. Last night i had the most vivid lucid dream I have had yet but in the midst of my excitement I talked to someone who died 6 years ago, not someone especially close to me, and she said (among other things) the only way she could contact the living world was through lucid dreams.

Has anybody had any similar experience?

Oh and I flew for the first time

Being able to interact with your memories and thoughts of the dead is one of the coolest things about lucid dreaming

I dream of my aunt sometimes.

The first time was only weeks after her death (she died in a car accident) and it hadn't sunken in yet because I hadn't shed a tear. I was driving home from out of town and had fallen asleep on the wheel. Usually I know because there are little groves on the side of the road that wakes me up when my car starts to wonder over, but that day I didn't wake up. I think I was out cold or thought I was still awake (It was one of those dreams where I kept waking up and falling asleep and eventually I dreamt I was driving home and got confused) until my aunt's face popped into my mind and that's when I realized I was dreaming. Thankfully it happened when it did because I was still going speed limit (usually I slow down when I fall asleep) and I was headed straight towards a state trooper who was parked on the side of the road.
I won't forget that day. I was so shaken up by it, one because I could've killed him, two, if I even hit his car I would've gotten into a lot of trouble and I sorta landed rear first into a ditch.
My life pretty much passed before my eyes. Strange thing was though the officer came up to me and asked if I was okay, didn't even ask for my DL or anything. He then helped me pull my car out and at that point I was preparing for the worst: Not.A.Scratch. After that he let me go and said I should pull over at a fast food place up ahead to get something to eat and rest.
Once everything had sunken in, the accident, me getting away without so much as warning, and the death of my aunt I pretty much balled my eyes out the rest of the way home.

      I have...I knew I was dreaming.
      He told me.
It was amazing at first, he was back, my mother was smiling. She was happy. I saw him and ran to him, he hugged me..but the second I touched him, he smelt like death. (He use to always smell like Old spice. We keep of bottle in his honor.) The second I noticed I pulled away and was aware I was dreaming, He whispeared to me, like he could hear my thoughts..."Don't tell her, look how happy she is!"
It was the only time he came. And it was my first lucid. It only lasted seconds...but it is something I will never ever forget.

I lost my grandfather on my mother's side a few years ago, my grandmother married again, and I considered the wonderful man she married to be my grandfather too. We lost him to cancer last May.

The night he died I was sleeping in my office at work (probably not the best place to try and get lucid....but hey....beggars can't be choosers.)I had a vivid dream that my little brother had driven down in front of the building and rapped on the window to tell me my Grandfather had passed. I woke in the morning and a few hours in was called by my parents to say he'd gone in the night.

A few weeks later, I had a dream where I was in a building with some friends and there was a knock on the door. I went to the door and both my Grandfather's are there.... to the best of my knowledge, they never met in life, yet they were there as friends in my dream.

First LD I had I went to see my late Grandmother. I dreamt that she was staying in a nursing home and we raced remote control boats for some reason. I've had a few dreams about her, even now when I don't remember her very clearly I still occasionally dream about her. In one, she hadn't died, she was in witness protection.

My grandmother died nine years ago, and she's visited me in dreams several times. There've been times where she's warned me or given me advice. In fact, I had such a dream about two weeks ago, and I feel like it was a warning, but when I woke up I couldn't remember any of the details. Its part of what got me back into lucid dreaming, after I haven't been trying for a while, now. It feels important.

I think you might have actually been talking to real sprit not just a DC. I think you were in the Astral Plane.

Listen, you're talking to people who have suffered emotional trauma and loss.
The might even be vunerable. Please don't feed them this kind of BS.

Discussion on the Astral Plain can be found in beyond dreaming.

While I agree that it probably isn't the best idea to tell someone who may be going through grief that they actually met their dead loved one on the astral, I think that it is equally wrong to write it off as BS. I think its easy to look at talk of astral projection as crazy and impossible, but I also think that there should be a mutual understanding among everyone here, because there are also a lot of people out there who consider lucid dreaming to be equally crazy and impossible. If you don't personally believe in astral projection, I think there should at least be enough respect for the people on here who do to not describe it in such negative terms.

On that note, lucidom, I think that perhaps you should check out the section on astral projection since it seems from your first post that you perhaps suspect that the person actually was contacting you, and if that is the case the astral might be what you're looking for.

In times like these I ask myself "What Would Dawkins Do!".
As far as I am concerned astral projection is BS. The clue is the fact that the induction process for OBE's is near identical to WILDing.

I do respect the right to have an opinion...in the beyond dreaming forum.

Posters can go to town over there....and generally do.

Luckily Lucid Dreaming has been scientifically proven. Something which astral travelling seems to have been unable to achieve.

People out there will be even less likely to believe in Lucid Dreaming if the boards are contaminated with Spiritual and Cultish chatter.

DV very sensibly endevours to keep the two seperate.
It has also kindly provided a sub-forum for those who wish to indulge.
I would look for people to show respect for this solution by using the sub-forum where appropriate.

I use to dream with my bitch, she died 6 years ago and when I must fight with some sort of monster sometimes she comes to help me. When my dog (her son) died I tried to look for his soul in a LD but I couldn't find it since then I dream with a dog that seems to mine but I know he isn't my dog. Well, I know they aren't peoples but I love'em like brothers.

My only experienced with the dead in my lucids was like your experience, Tarsso. I managed to find my childhood dog and give her a belly rub a couple of years after we had to put her to sleep. It was a great experience, I really got to hug "her" one last time (or maybe not, maybe I'll get the chance to do it again in another lucid), I got to tell her I loved her and that I missed her. It was a very healthy experience I think in coming to terms with her death (though by two years I had essentially already reached that point), I'm sure that if used properly it could be very therapeutic in cases with human deaths and grief over lost loved ones.

Thats really nice. Even if they're not real, it must be nice to get the chance to say goodbye to loved ones. Good for you.

What ever comes next, once they're gone from this world, they're gone.
But it has to be great for those left behind.

Dreams can, I think, be great for sorting things out. Its it no way on the same level as whats being discussed, but I had a dream about an Ex girlfriend once, not long before I got married.

In it I had dumped my fiance and got back together with the Ex.
I couldn't understand what had occoured and knew I had made a mistake.
I couldn't stand the thought of never seeing my fiance again.
Luckily, when I woke up, she was there! Probably has no Idea why she got the extra snuggle time that morning.

Similar to shift, I don't feel I had any unresolved feelings on the matter. But I do feel like it firmly put my past behind me, which was a good thing.

Yes. I have had the same experience. One year to the date- my Mother visited me. We talked, laughed and even flew over clouds (hence, my name). We sat and talked, i can remember her touching my hair and easing my pain. This was the start of my Lucid dreams. But to classify it as Lucid or Astral or OBE...hmmm? Coming from a TRUE BELIEVER it doesnt matter what its classified as. Congrats on flying

woah... not being mean but that sounds nothing like contact with deceased It sound more like your aunt was your guardian angel to be that lucky plus damn those grooves in the road are scary I remember when I was younger my mom was driving me up to my aunts and I fell asleep and she decided to wake me up by driving on those grooves... she scared the crap outta me almost literally. well I hope I have an experience like that cause I really miss my neighbour henry he died a while ago from cancer and just the thought of contacting him in dreams seems oh so lovely T_T
