I got the idea from someone who posted a thread somewhere else in the forum. I was thinking more of a type of setting where someone could pick a book, then discuss it to get more out of it after a few people have read it. Ive tried reading a few books (Existentialism and Human Emotion, Beyond Good and Evil, The Myth of Sisyphus, etc..) and haven't finished or have gotten little out of it. Is this appealing to anyone?

I would be very interested in something like that! I am sort of a beginner philosophy-wise as well, but I want to start learning. I have started the book "The Holographic Universe".. And so far it is really cool. Anyway, contact me if you get something like this going.

      Finally!

No other replies so far, but one person is enough if you are interested. I just wanted someone to talk to after reading the same book. I have this book from a course I took Modern Philosophy: An Anthology of Primary Sources, it starts with Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes and ends around Kant. I kinda wanted to start with Socrates or even those who influenced him, but I open to anything from any time period.

By the way, what's the Holographic Universe about. I think I've seen it in the book store a few times.

Let me know what you think.

I haven't finished the book yet, because I haven't had much time to pick it up. But it is about the theory and physics of holography and its application, both in science and in explanation of the paranormal and psychic. So far its really good. I will be checking the library to see if they have the book you mentioned, but I probobly wont have time to get there until the beginning of next week.

Sounds good, it was a college course book, the editors Roger Ariew and Eric Watkins if that helps. And I probably won't have much time before the next two weeks are up, so let me know when you get it or if you want to read something else.

I checked the library and they didn't have that book... Oooh well. I found another book and the librarian was completely RAVING about it. It is called Sophie's World and is all about philosophy, appariently it is really good. Maybe you would be interested in reading that one?

Greetings, i seem to be pretty new to this forum and site but am a little more experienced when it comes to the realm of Philosophy. This sounds like a great idea to share thoughts and ideas on thoughts and ideas! Are there any books going around at the moment?
i have read Holographic Universe and found it to be a great theory on a theory. This intertwined universe, constantly in a flux of change and a decided degree of controlled chaos, seems to be only that way due to our flawed cognitive ability to perceive it as such. i think it sparks great ideas as long as you keep in mind the subjectivity of the writing and that in the end, although based on science, is only a Theory, not fact.
Are any of you into semi-political fiction? i have taken a short break from reading up on Existential authors to a lighter fiction, but i am always down for discussing ideas.

I like the idea, understanding philosophy often requires more than just reading a book, so a thread that would provide conversation would greatly help me understand.
      First post btw, hey everyone

The Holographic Universe was very interesting, but I felt he went a little far with trying to make everything conform to his idea of "holographicity".

Right now I'm reading The Psychology of Man's Possible Evolution by Ouspensky, which is supposed to be an introduction to Gurdjieff's Fourth Way.
      Interesting.
