I need some inspiration since I don't know much about great philosophers.

Morons???? What are you referring to? Me for asking??? hmmmmmf.

Anyone can look up in the dictionary under great philosopers and get Plato, Artistotle and Socrates, but I'm looking for who people admire outside of the most popular.

For instance, I think Jesus was a philosopher (I'm sure I'll get a million dissagreements here) and I can say that I admire him because he is the only philosopher who walked this planet who was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Perfection is something we try out lives to be but will never achieve. He, Jesus, was born perfect and died perfect!!

So, who do you admire? The obvious or some one not so obvious?

I love the subject of philosophy!

Dreaming is totally linked with it the sense that "your thoughts are who you are."

Also, considering that the Matrix plot is embedded with religious and philosophical credit, it's not hard to realize that lucid dreaming is just like "jacking in."

Funny, I totally didn't catch that line in the movie (probably because I don't know the movie at all).

Well, I'm not too familiar on this topic and I need to expand my knowledge in this area. I would like to do some reading on a great one but don't know which one to start with. I was hoping someone would show unusual passion for the words of one. I need a little inspiration to get me going. To get me driven to look one up and start reading. I'm looking to be inspired... ANY LEADERS OUT THERE WHO CAN SHOW ME THE PATH... I'll do the driving, just give me the directions.

It's got quotes from philosophers all over history.

Why am I trying to get rid of it? Let's just say it was given to me by an ex-girlfriend.. and I got another copy for my own.

I like Camus too Seeker, well I read one of his books - the plague, a couple of years ago in university, wasnt he existentialist? i cant remember that well - didnt get a great mark in that course

To seek knowledge for the sake of knowledge is to be a philosopher.

Plato, not Prozac
by Dr. Lou Marinoff, which offers a good synopsis of several schools of thought with examples from recent and ancient philosophers, poetry, theology, etc; written in a much easier to read language than classical texts, it also has an extensive reading list which you may find helpful.

sometimes feels a bit too commercial (and he's definitely selling his industry of philisophical counseling), but the examples and reading list are worth the trip to the library

There is only one I admire, a great many others I despise.

Nietzsche was on the right track, but not to the last centimeter. He at least tried to create something out of his philosophy... Little did he know the "transvaluation of all values" is post-modernism, and post-modernism leads to Nihilism.

He created something to live by, an ascetcism. But, as he stated, the meaning of ascetic ideals are nothing. I believe that had more subtlety than some people think. The over-man, the super-man, which creates his own laws are what Nietzche himself idolized.

I am but an egg in Nietzchian philosophy though.
