      Extinction

Of the estimated 500 million species of plants
and animals that have existed since life began on earth,
only about 2 million are here today.
This means that about 99.5 percent of
      all species have become extinct."

Umm not to sound rude or anything but what is your point with the whole extinction thing apart from alot of species have died????
Sweet is love when all is sane
Sweet is death to rid the pain
Pain is death when all is well
Pain is love when all is hell

Well, there are millions of bug species... and there are all the animals that died in prehistoric times because they couldn't adapt or whatever the hell happened...

      It's still sad though

Why is it sad or bad at all? It's just how things are. Nothing lasts forever. Time moves mountains.

Extinction is a natural process of the Universe. Humans will be extinct some day too.
In this crazy world if they don't consider you mad, then you have no confirmation of your own sanity, do you?
Imagine if this crazy world thought you were sane?! Oh my God, worst nightmare!

I kind of wonder how many people did kill. Humans are like their own personal natural disaster when it comes to the extinction of animals.

And I was just making an observation, evanescent - were you responding to me?

There are 100 new unidentified ones in, say, a ball of mud. Go facts.

      Deep Time Flash

Every fifty million years or so there has been a mass extinction. Probably caused by any number of events including large space debris, climate change, large scale natural disasters such as volcano erruptions, and perhaps natural predatation.

What is also interesting about that above chart is that on the time scale we have been here for a very short amount of time; only about twenty four million years. Compared to the four thousand five hundred and fifty years that the earth has been around that is a relatively short existience. It makes you wonder a bit if there was intelligent life before humans. After all, intelligence has been theorized to be an adaptation of animals; much in the same way that animals use camoflauge, flight, or any such other means to escape predatation. However, mostly that theory is used to place intelligent life on other planets.

Humanity has doomed a few. We've doomed an insignificant ammount of species. Many of the species were important to ecosystems and caused more damage, and many of them were big and had fur, but we are the most important and significant animal yet.
