Have you ever used any psychedelics? Do you have any personal experience to back up your claims of what psychedelic drugs do to the brain?
Go smoke a hit of DMT and tell me what the hell just happened.

Heres an interesting thought. The simple thought that something is going to change in 2012 could bring about a change. Kind of like how a full moon results in higher crime rates and such.
Im just saying if everyone is expecting it, something could happen.
It's interesting how people don't know how to listen to themselves and learn through direct experience. So much easier to eat what the social institutions are feeding us...
I've been very interested in this topic for a while. Humans who are, as a result of positive karma, able to become more self-realized have an affect on others (the aim of an enlightened being is compassionate action), more people realize that we all have the potential to become enlightened (our suffering is only an obscuration of consciousness), and in a sense there is a cascading effect.
It's also interesting how people can accept so many lies about drugs - which is understandable, because those with an investment in the status quo sure would be screwed (so they think) if more people learned the truth. How can you make marijuana and mushrooms illegal!? They grow naturally. Make fucking propaganda spewing white house pigs illegal.
Pot opened my eyes. And because of this I have had no need to continue using it (for over 4 months). It was merely a tool to bring me closer to what I expected was there behind all the illusion. I had one completely indescribable, enlightening experience during which I learned that time is an illusion, and that I will never die.
Just recently I had an experience (not involving any substances) where I had something similar to a deja vu episode and I saw all the pieces coming together, the oneness recognizing itself once again... It was an experience of complete equality. No dualism. The people near me were a part of me and I loved them. My body was no different from a dream-body, just like the finely-detailed trees passing me.
I know this to be true not because someone told me so. I know this because I have experienced it directly. And I know that what holds others back will dissolve for them as easily as it did for me. This is an exiting time to be alive and human.
How about instead of insulting those of us who happen to disagree with you, you actually present a counter-argument? You seem to conveniently ignore my pleas for evidence. I KNOW you can't give perfect, or maybe even sufficient, evidence online. I'm not asking for you to convince me. All I'm asking is for you to explain your reasoning, the things that you consider evidence, that I may make an educated decision on this topic.
Is that so much to ask?
Also, let me make it clear that my "fuck you" statement was not aimed at you, but towards the more negative skeptics, such as Nerou, for example.
Your posts are constructive and I respect that. But as for my counter-agrument - it has already been posted, already said, and for now, stands as the most "proof" I can offer to you over the internet.
Haha.
If you don't like criticism, you shouldn't have posted on a forum.
I never said anything was impossible. I was just pointing out your extreme lack of proof, and your beforehand blind faith in extraordinary, and thus unlikely and needing extraordinairy evidence, claims.Quote:
in fact, anyone who is like you is not welcome on this topic, because nothing good will be said here unless the people saying it are open minded enough to even remotely consider the possibility of something like that happening.
Your mind is as open as that of a fundamentalist Christian or Scientologist. They 'accept' their kind of magic, like you accept your kind of 'magic'. = )
Look man, I'm used to be a skeptic. I still am, in many ways. I know there is no way to really prove this stuff to you at the moment, at least, but please, don't go as far to say my faith is "beforehand". I used to be a skeptic, and guess what? I happened to find some proof, and now, I don't have to "believe"... haha, I KNOW, and it feels damn good.
I accept my "magic" or whatever you want to call it because I know it exists. I'm not walking into this stuff blindfolded hoping I'm right. In fact, I would probably be acting the way you are now if I never found any proof. But I did. And that changes everything.
I'm still a skeptic. In fact, anything I don't know for a fact I face with skepticism. But as for the stuff I know for a fact exists, well, thats all that has to be said.
Do not compare me with the ignorant just because you don't know if I'm telling the truth. If you knew, for a fact, that I was telling the truth, how would you see me then?
Those views are based either on fear or materialism. A "shift in consciousness" would be more like turning from this and towards true wisdom and compassion.
All phenomena in this particular universe originated from the same singularity. Because of this we are all inextricably connected. I'm not talking about magic, I'm talking about freeing ourselves from the negative emotions which arise from delusion and ignorance and remembering the incredible potential of our minds that was obscured and tainted long ago. "It requires, if you move into that Evolutionary Kingdom, that you leave behind everything of human ways - human behavior, human ignorance, human misinformation."
This shift is becoming more to me as more light is shed on such things as our exploitation of nature and immoral government activities. I see this shift come about as more people I know put these pieces together.
I would like to hear more of your thoughts regarding this, wer.
I have noticed that more people have became aware of the collective consciousness. One reason why I think there is going to be a consciousness shift soon is because I already know a lot of stuff, and I'm very young. I mean, not to long ago you were lucky to even get close to experiencing the things I have at all in your entire lifetime. Way more people are aware, thats for sure, and way more people are becoming aware at a relatively young age.
If you are interested in this subject, there is a great book out called "2012 - The Return of Quetzalcoatl" by Daniel Pinchbeck. It is by far the best book I have read about 2012, and is all about a consciousness shift. This book really opened my eyes on many subjects, and I HIGHLY recommend it. You won't be able to put it down.
*edit (double post)*
I'll look into it -- this all reminds me of the evo. biologist/philosopher in Waking Life. That guy is awesome :D
Look, I appreciate your tolerance of my posts, but this is complete and utter bullshit. Not only did you spell infinite wrong, this whole passage is nothing but pseudo-intellectual nonsense. The mysteries of myself? That has nothing to do with the issue at hand - the physical, or non-physical nature of the human mind.
You said at the beginning of this thread, and I quote,
"Its becoming more and more well known that we expand beyond our physical existence."
You cannot possibly claim that this is true without presenting me with some actual thought process, some sort of reasoning, which leads people to this conclusion other than 'looking deep into the mysteries of yourself'.
The physical human brain has plenty of mysteries. What is it that leads you to believe that we have a non-physical component to our minds? That is all I want to know.
Hahaha, that guy is awesome. Favorite character in the movie:)
thegnome54, sorry, but that is all I can offer you for now. I know it doesn't offer any real proof, but what do you expect me to do over the internet? I'm not even good enough at psi (right now) to make a decent video, so I really can't offer you any proof right now. Perhaps we should stop the argument and wait until I have something interesting to show you... because I can not prove these things through logical reasoning. You have to experience it for it to make any sense at all, simple as that. Thats why I asked you to meditate. You may not recognize the heightened state it puts you in, and I'm sure you don't know how to utilize a trance for any kind of psychic work, but it was worth a try mentioning...
There is criticism, and then there's being stupid and immature. Maybe you are incapable of mature, intelligent skepticism. And if that's the case, I'm sorry for you. Because until you develop some maturity, very few people will ever respect you, because you rarely have anything intelligent to say.Quote:

And yet, no one answered my question, not that I'm surprised. The assholes of this forum don't have an answer, which proves my point. My question was why do skeptics feel the need to degrade us? We don't make stupid snide remarks bashing your skepticism. Yet you continue to antagonize us. And none of you have an answer for that do you? Why? Because there is no reason. You're just immature little shits. And that's my point. I don't insult you for being skeptic. I insult you for being assholes. You insult me (and other believers) for no reason whatsoever. So again I say to whom it applies- grow up.
I have had a similar experience, cygnus. I experienced some feeling of understanding and enlightenment after an OBE one day. You know, some people don't need proof. And some people theorize about things that we don't know for sure. That's why they're theories. Ideas. New ideas that are not proven, but are not necessarily non-existent. Is that not part of what philosophy is? Try be open minded. Not necessarily meaning "believe everything" because that's unreasonable. Just be open to the possibility that it's all true. Cause if this stuff is proven one day, who's going to be the asshole? Do we get to antagonize and flame and degrade your intelligence? That seems fair to me.
Actually, the vast majority of the planet is getting more and more ignorant of science as the world as a whole advances. How many people do you know that could program a computer, let alone build one? Its the blind acceptance of what scientists tell you that makes you ignorant, not the belief in other possibilities.
i see a conciousness shift in every new born child. the next generation of kids will be completly different from our own and that is possibly the conciousness shift. no long are kids constrained by their parents and teachers view on life. they can jump on the internet and read about paralel realitys, time shifts, conciousness shifts, 2012 prophecies. our own generation is changing constantly. people become enlightened by reading and 100% of the internet is readable. it has nothing to do with 2012 a conciousness shift is going to happen regardless of what the mayans think it may not happen right away.
my theory was that in the future people are going to be more creative and most of society would be based on the arts. everything will be done and there will be no need for money because there are infinite resources. people will have time to waste on reading and expanding their minds whereas now we get out of highschool or college and go straight to work.
times will change its just going to happen.
if you watch on the history channel they say the electromagnetic feilds will shift because of the alignment with the center of the galaxy(IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THEY WOULDNT PUT THAT ON THERE FOR NOTHING) and the mind can be effected by EM flucuations. so it does have some scientific background.
The electromagnetic field is constantly changing, and it has little effect on your brain. Our brain is more chemical then electronic, so electritiy has little effect on the brain(well, unless it is extremely high).Quote:

Well, the future generation would proberly be the same as us but smarter. It would proberly not be based on arts, but technology. A computer like society where people get technological implants and stuff like Leonardo da vichi imagined would happen. China is mean't to be the next super power(in 2020 it would be as rich as america, if growth continues), so China would be the future.Quote:

Example 4: Hallucinations during an MRI scan
During an MRI scan of the head, the patient's nervous system is exposed to intense magnetic fields. The average velocities of the charge-carrying ions in the nerve cells is fairly low, but if the patient moves her head suddenly, the velocity can be high enough that the magnetic field makes significant forces on the ions. This can result in visual and auditory hallucinations, e.g., frying bacon sounds.
as far as i know the compass has always pointed north............................................. ................................
Thanks, however I most people working on earth magentic field know it decaying, I haven't heard of a study that says it will increase.Quote:

In the past north would be south on a compass, however it would have been a long time ago like 10 to 100 thousand years ago.
"scientific background" at that level just implies someones sprinkled magic fairy dust - sorry, scientific terminology - over their own concepts. Without a comparison of the field strengths required for mental effects and these fluctuations, it doesn't mean anything. Many people have used "scientific background" to sell their own ideas. Hey, movies use it to scare people - do you think e.g. The Core is realistic?
If you don't think you can make good on the science yourself, the best way is to try and find someone online who does, and point directly at them. "Appeal to authority" is a lousy argument technique, especially when it's a TV channel, especially if your readers haven't already watched it.
So -
a) that's one of the reasons skeptics get so worked up, because they see people taking language which means something very important to them - their personal understanding of the universe - and using it to support a worldview which is antithetical (in opposition) to their own. I think the example of this is the film The Secret, and the explanation that quantum mechanics supports the "theory of attraction".
b) can we drop the psychoactive magnetism already? You've already said you don't think theres going to be a shift on a certain date, and that there are plenty of other changes that are affecting the way we think. Magnets are fairly odd things to start arguing about in comparison.
Though that MRI stuff is interesting. And wendylove is being amazingly reasonable, so maybe you can carry on talking about galactic psychoactive magnetism without inflaming too many people. :boggle:.
-ontopic-
Uh, my 2c? If 2012 does happen to be the knee in some earth-shattering (oops. earth saving?) curve, the time when everything changes - it won't be something the mayans could have predicted. I have no expectation of a lasting "global shift in consciousness" that could happen in as little time as a year.
I agree that we are at a time of tremendous change, and it's not likely to slow down any time soon. I believe it is possible to steer that change in a positive direction and minimise those that are left behind or simply run over - or there wouldn't be any point in trying, would there? And these changes are so complicated that I want to know that people are gathering evidence, verifying their theories against that evidence, and taking the best action they can.

I believe the studies that say cannabis use correlates with psychosis. I deeply distrust anyone using that to back up policy. If you think cannabis causes psychosis, you also need to explain why you think they're not both caused by a common factor - e.g. which school you went too - or even that its the other way round and people who are more susceptible to psychosis are more likely to smoke.
I won't agree with you because what you say matches my biases, and pandering to them without substance will make me turn off just as strongly as if someone tries to tell me that evolution is rubbish because "what good is half an eye?".
Now theres a high-level meme I really would like to see gain a foothold.
Consciousness cannot be completely explained on a physical basis. To take sensory input, let's say experiencing the taste of salt, and reduce it to neurons firing and neurotransmitters and such is the result of scientific prejudice. Not too long ago you'd think that the computer you're looking at was a discrete independent physical form, but the truth is it's a manifestation of the - I think the term is - quantum background. So basically, there is a fault in seeing inherent existence rather than how that form arises depending on prior causes, conditions, and what concepts we attach to it. I guess you could say that sentient awareness strictly based on physical components is the same as a chair without an energetic basis.
So my advice for you would be, rather than accept other people's views of reality, try to see beyond the words and concepts. I think becoming more familiar with experiences I cannot explain was the first step for me. I hope that makes sense.
And, hey Ahhchuu
Your idea about future generations...
I think our collective human karma puts that into perspective. I mean, is it just me or does it seem like every teenage girl I know is very depressed at some level, which I guess could be attributed to our culture becoming incredibly superficial and fake? When you focus so much on appearances and the physical world it seems natural that, at some point, we would reject what we are destroying ourselves with...? Then maybe we'd hear more jammin tunes rather than horse-shit corporate banality! ;)
I might just make that my sig.Quote:
