      you and all of you

if you were to ask what is in your head you might say just you. you are alone in there so this is to say that everything in your dream is you wether it be a dog or a desk it is you. so everything you see becomes a part of you on some level. every room of every house of every town you have seen is now a part of you. the books you have read are now you. sorry if this is sounding weird but this is now a part of you so to be ever lasting then... damb trailed off add your ideas on the subject if you want.

Or like they say in the south: "y'all and all y'all" (hehe weirdos ).

Yeah, it definitely becomes a part of you on some level. I'll sometimes dream about stuff I saw during the day but never really noticed. The neat thing is, if you focus on the dream, and try to figure out where the hell a certain piece came from, you'll usually remember.

The interesting thing is, if I tell you an idea that I've had, its now part of you but its still part of me. In a way, I have spread part of me to your 'mind'.

If 'you' want to go a little deeper, 'you' aren't really giving a part of 'you' to anyone BUT 'you'.

Essentially, you teach yourself about yourself.

Seems kind of obvious to me - everything we remember is stored information.

A more interesting line of thought would be to question our capacity - can the brain contain as much information as it's possible to cram into it in a lifetime? Is there a point where we stop learning, or get rid of old memories? How is so much information crammed into such a tiny organ?

I learn tons of new stuff everyday, thanks to the internet, television, books I read, and sometimes even school. Can this go on?

I don't think we ever stop learning. Living is learning to come to terms with your true self.

I think the brain dumps unnecessary stuff that you don't need after a while. The phrase, "If you don't use it, you lose it.", applies to pretty much anything. Personally, with meditation and other avenues of perception expansion, I've dumped many useless items which I used to think important directly into the trash. As your world view and outlook changes, so does what you view important. Things you found important yesteryear begin to become baggage otherwise...

That would mean that our brain has a maximum capacity for knowledge (which makes sense, really), but then if we reach that capacity, does it mean that every 'new' thing we learn must be accompanied by the loss of some older knowledge?

I don't think we literally just 'forget' things, it seems more like we lose detail, and only hold onto vague notions of the concepts we once knew so well. Of course that's just conjecture based on my own experiences.

      I would tend to agree.

Although, I think you can quickly purge certain modes of thought and create newer better ones by altering brain chemistry through meditation, etc.

The extraordinary capacities of some individuals' memory and the potential of meditation/hypnosis for surfacing long-lost memories has led me to believe that the human mind is capable of storing everything that has happened in the lifetime. The difficulty - why our memories fail - is not due to the memory not being there, but our inability to access the memories.

Back on topic - I agree, that what we perceive feels as a part of ourselves. But that is also where the "me-ness" ends - it is our consciousness, perceptions and past experiences that literally make up our identity - there is no other thing that is "me".

on a serious note, I find myself agreeing with them. The brain doesnt loose the memories, they just become more vauge with time...how it does it idk

You have never ever experienced anything other than your own mind. When you "see" a building, what you are really seeing is your mind's representation of the building. Your self is all you have ever truly experienced.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?
