I almost died, now I wanna die without coming back

Ok.. imagine someone close to you had a near-death experiment, crash-car or whatever ok..
this person saw/felt what death was like, and when he comes back to life,
he wants to die again. he tells everyone that if they really love him, they should let him rest in peace, because death takes him to a really great place.

      -Would you let him die?
-Do you think you have the right to tell him what to do?

      discuss.

I think nature has this one worked out - you only see death if you die, so therefore this scenario can't occur.

That's my theory on it. Perhaps you can see death without dying (you know those electric "STAT!" thingies? but perhaps death just leaves them farting about for a bit...)

Depends on the situation. If they were still in pain and slowly dying, I would concider it.

But if they woke up and healed and were fine and able to live a good life, I would tell them that they need to live. Not only that, but they should suck it up and not be so selfish.. Sounds harsh but you have to think about the people around. Friends and family of that person.

Hmm I wasn't asking if the person that wanted to die should die, but what the friend/family member should do.

I think if you die and come back you have made the conscious choice to return to earth with the knowlege and serenity that "death" is an illusion.

i have almost died three times, never with an NDE, but after the third time, even though i hated being alive with a passion, i realised the universe didnt want me to die, i had some sort of purpose i stil havent figured out, and i had to wait it out.
a child's rhyme stuck in my head
it said life is but a dream
i spent so many years in question
to find i known this all along..

Throwing your life away just because you think you had a glimpse of something that MIGHT be heaven/afterlife? Sounds risky. I'd slap that person and show him some tough love.

I would want only the best for my friends. But death? I don't think that I would want to let them die, but I guess in a way it's kind of selfish on both parts. It's a very skeptical question. I can try to tell them my opinion, but I can't stop them if they don't want to be stopped. Unless it's suicide you're talking about, then that's different.

Well, you have to think about it. Well, think about life in a broader sense. After all the stuff they say about wanting to be dead, they may not realise that no matter what they do, there is absolutely no way that they can come out of life still alive. They're going to eventually be dead anyway.

Why cut it short for them?
The best times of your life should not be when you're still so young, or else you'll live a life always dreaming of the past.

I agree. I'd try to make it clear to them that they'll get their wish soon enough. Why rush it?

From all I've seen/heard/read of NDEs, though, they tend to make people either more comfortable in life or more fearful of death (some people have "hell" experiences). Many people find them beautiful, but I've never heard of someone so eager to go back.

I have read that people may experience a NDE, if they are convinced they are about to die.
I think it is mentioned somewhere here:

      http://memopolis.uni-regensburg.de/lektuer...sh/ndebook.html

Anyway, I think NDE's are very strange/scary, so I can't see any reason people should enjoy it.
I think a lucid dream at a high level is much better.
      Are you dreaming?

Guess what happens when you die? Nothing. Notta. Zip. .

When you're dead you're dead, worms eat you. There is no soul, there is no afterlife, sorry to burst your bubble. People seem to be afraid of that concept for some reason. I think its because it's impossible to comprehend nothingness, and things that people don't understand scare people. The part of the brain responsible for "spirituality" has been identifed.

As for NDEs, most people report seeing the exact same types of images when they have a NDE, that's the result of random firing of neurons as the oxygen supply to the brain is cut off. It's what happens when your brain is dying.

PS. Sorry if my words sound harsh, it's very late and I'm very tired.

Ha! I agree with p00p. But hey, who *really* knows what's gonna happen. I'm just glad I believe in an afterlife, otherwise I'd probably be depressed out of my mind, and I'd never get over the people that have died.

Well scwiggly...i don't believe in an afterlife, heave, hell or whatever else you want to call it. and I've seen many people die...and i'm not depressed out of my mind, quite the opposite actually, it makes me enjoy life more...it's life, it's a cycle...it happens and there's nothing you can do about it...so why worry?

Hey, don't jump to conclusions, I don't believe in an afterlife and I'm not depressed out of my mind. Also, I do get over the people that have died. It's called accepting reality. Why don't you give up your self-reinforcing delusion and try it? Why do you need the fancy concept of an afterlife to maintain your sanity? Seems like a crutch to me.

PS. But in all honesty, I'm probably wrong, I don't claim to have everything figured out, who am I to say that my opinion is better than any of yours.

Dude, bradybaker, I was just expressing what would happen to me personally. I wasn't thinking about what anyone else's life must be like. Just mine.

We'll all find out sooner or later.

First off, thanks pOOp, that seems like the first ever post of yours that made a LOT sense (I didn't get the bull my name thing at first...). Poop is right about that. Also, if I had a positive NDE I would probably be a lot more comfortable for the rest of my life. If I saw a glimpse of heaven or felt or saw something amazing, I could probably live peacefully for the rest of my life waiting to get their.

I find this POV tends to come from attachment to ego; some people would rather believe they will cease to exist than admit that there is more to them than the running commentary in their heads.

Myself, I don't think anything leaves the system. All the elements that make you up, whether physical particles or ideas or what, disentangle when you die, and end up in different places. Eventually, many of these elements will likely recombine, through the same affinity that brought them together in you, and something very much like you will exist again. I've seen after a death how aspects of the deceased person appear in their loved ones, and I've been aware since early childhood of having lived and died before. So no, your image of yourself will not persist past death; it will not persist unaltered into the next moment. Will any part of you cease to exist, though? I don't think so.
