Let me apologize right away if I happen to insult or anger anybody in this post, I am looking only to debate, not argue.

All religions view their god/gods in a certain way with a certain personality. In this post, I’m focusing in on my Catholic God. All Christians view God as a loving and just god, but each Christian group tends to worship him in their own way. I’ve always viewed God as an entity who wishes for peace and harmony between us humans, but is lenient to such things as swearing and fictional violence.Take my avatar for example; it is a parody of Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel painting, featuring Adam as Paul Reubens and God as Bill Cosby, some would be furious at this, thinking me a sinner, but I believe that if God was sitting with me right now, he’d laugh with me at the parody and congratulate me on my creative mind because he knows I love and worship him, is there sin in that? I know some groups feel they must take it upon themselves to avoid many gratifications. Now I don’t believe in cheating, lying, stealing, fraud, rape, murder, or any other horrible sins such as those, in fact, I find myself feeling guilty about things that really aren’t that bad. What I’m trying to say is:
Do you think God looks for total obedience in every category, or do you think that God is cool with lesser things, like a true peacemaker would be? I believe that he is the cool one; at least, I hope he is, because that is the kind of God that I truly love.
Crazy, but that's how it goes!

I think it can not be explained how an eternal being changes it's mind so much, at least that is how it's believers make it look. In the 18th century alot of christians thought that even saying a sexual word was sinful. Now however that isn't found sinfull by most people. Allso racism was just fine by allmost all christians before the 18th century. However now (most) christians think we are all equal and stuff.

The point is, eventhing that christians think 'god' finds good or bad is what the individual christians as a group find good or bad. Everything good or bad in the eyes of christians is far from timeless. Thus it hold little actual value in regard to a timeless, eternal higher being.

I don't think I'm taking everything I should from that, but what stands out the most from this post, what really grabed me, was the racism thing. I think it would be much worse to be racist to someone than to talk about anal sex.

This thread made me think of something I read once:

"God has a tremendous sense of humour. He is the funniest man in the universe. And this is His way of saying that things are going to turn around for us now"

ARGH, I hate so much when people interpret religious texts the way it's convenient for them.

      heres my 2 pennies.

Although i dont believe in god, here is my point.

The book of genesis says that god created man in his image. Although i dont think this means god LOOKS like a man, i do believe this means we have the same "personality" as "god". This would mean god has a sense of humor, just as we do.

so dont worry about following your moral path.

As a former catholic, i know how bad catholics warp everything. It would be best to stay away from them.

And god must have a sense of humor. The sick bastard created cancer and AIDS.

      .....what an asshole

If that is so, his sense of humour must be a bit weird. I mean, a good joke is the one that makes laugh everybody without exceptions. And looking daily TV news is quite the opposit.
      I'm tired being sorry.
