Hey, i just got a letter through my door today from the college i am hoping to go to in a few weeks depending on my results, the letter was about a meetup at the college of people of different faiths and since i would love to meet some new people i thought "hey, why not go along" but i'm hesitant to whether i should go, not every religious person is evil, i can still make friends but i am unsure whether i should go or not because i am an athiest, the thing is that if i am walking around this meetup and people ask me what religion i follow i'll have a little problem. I could say that i'm christian but my views would surely come out later if i was to make any good friends. Its just the fact that athiests are not very liked by many religions. Should i go or should i give it a miss, what do you think? |

I would interpret "faith meetup" as "aimed to those with some sort of religious faith", and while it's possible another atheist will show up, the vast majority of the people will probably have a similar interpretation. You can still go, cause you want to meet people, and that's reason enough, but you might feel a little more uncomfortable than necessary. |

if the meet up includes discussion and debating faiths, which i assume it might since different faiths are going to share their views, then you will probably be ok and other atheists might go to. |

Lugggs and cuddles and hugs for all!!
When I was in college, I used to go to Christian organization meetings just to get free pizza. If there is free food, go for it. In return, they get a shot at converting you. |

How do you know you are not dreaming right now?
Just go, and try not to get into debates where it will come down to "So you don't believe in any god? Oh no! Vile devil-spawn!". Just try to keep a normal opinion, but when it comes down to it, give some vague answers that could also imply you being an agnostic, like dude nr2 said. =) |
