As someone has already pointed out, what purpose does this serve?

If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Those names from the bibble are a bit stuffy and formal.

I enjoy the Codex Sinaiticus , which gives a more open view and flavor of the man. It includes many nick-names and terms of endearment not found in the modern texts.

      http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/7651105.stm

I particulally like how the diciples frequently refer to Jesus as "Jezza".

I also enjoyed that John affectionally reffered to Jesus as "Mad Dog" for months after clearing the temple of traders. And how after a beating Mark in manly wine and bread roll eating competion on the first night upon his reaching Jerusalem, Mark was forced to proclaim his victor as "The Jezmeister".

Most curiosly of all though, is that Thomas frequently addressed jesus upon awakening in the morning as "My Lord Spanky".

Of course the Codex Sinaiticus as the worlds oldest surviving bible is not popular with everyone. It omits many key passages around the resurrection and other key passages, as such is considered heretical in some quarters, Others of course see it as evidence that the gospels were still being written hundreds of years after the "authors" deaths.

It's the religious section, right? I thought this was a neat list, so I thought I'd post it.

      @evildoctor

I don't get your point. None of that stuff is in the Bible.

That would be 'El', pretty much meaning 'All'. Formatted to 'God', which implied 'All'. Also my favourite.
A lot of Jewish and Hebrew names inclue the word 'El', usually meaning 'of God' or 'from God'.

I think that's the best part about christianity. The all encompassing God that some people still like to think about~

Hehe, I meant, I think Christ's favourite name is "I am", but when I think clearer, his name is irrelevant. It could be "I am (insert word)" which could be everything. "I am your life and you are my own." and "Learn of me. Take within your hand a leaf, a stone, a drop of water, and know that nothing exists that does not contain me." and more importantly "... we are one"

      Kingerman,

You dont know your Hebrew. ELOHIM is plural. It means "gods". There is also much evidence and debate that Elohim is the masculine plural of a feminine noun.

The word is used some 60 plus places in the Torah. The correct translation of the first line of genesis is therefore :

In the beginning the gods and goddesses they created the heavens and the earth.

Another example of xtian ignorance and poor translation.

Interesting, if they can f*ck up the very first line then you have to wonder how much crappery is in the rest.

Elohim is indeed the plural word for God.

Read the Bible, and you will know that God is made up of the Trinity. (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost)

      Therefore, plural.
