AC-WILD: Alarm Clock assisted Wake Initiated Lucid Dream
Many people view the alarm clock as something that ruins their chances at an LD. I hypothesize that, with skillful application of a new and unique technique, the alarm clock can actually help you LD.
Here is something you can try:
1. Set the alarm for a time you wish to wake up. This step is optional but only if you have the self-discipline to make it optional. Read on to see why.
2. Go to sleep. Most of the time, you wake up much earlier than the alarm clock actually goes off because you essentially have a subconscious aversion to NOT being jolted awake by the loud and jarring noise it makes.
3. Sometimes in the morning, I find myself drifting between wake and sleep, all while repeatedly checking the clock to see what precious rest time I have left. On occasion, I'll wake up and later realize that some of that checking continued to happen in my dream, with utterly absurd things happening like the clock reading out "&:97 JM", the clock reading out red digits when it normally reads green, or sliders and buttons moving in ways they usually don't. This technique takes advantage of all that checking you do. While you repeatedly check the clock, DO A SMALL LITTLE RC AFTER EVERY TIME YOU DO SO. With luck, one of those checks happens in your dream.
"HURR DURR BUT MINI, THE ALARM CLOCK IS JUST GONNA RING ANYWAY AND WAKE ME UP IN A FEW MINUTES." Part of this technique involves developing self-discipline. Setting the alarm is NOT nessecary for the core function of this technique. The alarm provides an incentive in your extremely tired state to stay up and keep checking the time, rather than drifting back to sleep...much the same incentive you have on normal work days. On normal work days, you KNOW you can't just drift back to sleep. When doing this technique on weekends, you KNOW you can't just drift back to sleep or else the alarm is going to go back off. Weaning yourself off this alarm after a few weeks will allow you to practice the technique with just the clock-checking alone, and without the side-effect of interrupting your LD that you induce.
