Well I have a method that will make every sound lounder e.g. tapping the keyboard produces a lound sound in my ears. I think if other people try this they can have better hearing. I don't know where this will go, but I will put it here.
This is simple to do, but it takes about half an hour. First get a cup and fill it with water. Now look at the cup and follow these simple rules:
      . Don't move
      . Don't think
. Don't get distracted this means no t.v. on
. Let go of everything i.e. don't care about nothing
. The place should be quiet
Now here comes the improtant bit. Whilst looking at the glass keep on blinking really hard, this means blink with your face i.e. screw up your eyes like a angry person to close them. Now keep on doing this for about ten minautes, your muscles will become tired and will hurt when this happening keep on doing it. Also do blinking randomly like sometimes fast and sometimes slow.

Note: I don't know if you need to blink really hard or just blink normally, tomorrow if my hearing is normal I will try blinking normally to produce effect.

Now can someone else try this and say if your hearing gets lounder.

P.S. Make sure you try this more then once. Also the biggest sign it is working is you have a big vibrating feeling in your ear.

Allright. Sounds interresting allthough I can't figure out how that is going to increase your ear's sensativity to sound.

So what you mean to say is I should focus my eyes and attention on a filled cup of water while blinking my eyes closing them really tight everytime I blink?

And do you mean that after doing this for half an hour you will notice that everything sounds louder?

      I haven't got a clue either.

Yes that is it. I will expriement to see if their is a particular way to blink like fast or slow.

Only do this for ten minautes. Everything gets louder.

I really didn't know what causes my hearing to get louder, however I have a good idea.

Maybe things get louder because you get used to the silence and when you start to hear noises like TV or a keyboard they seem louder cause of the lack of sound. Happens to me all the time.

That's a good point. It has to do with the hearing threshold.

Exactly what I was thinking. Plus, you are doing this with the intention of improving your hearing. You are concentrating on your hearing; its not surprising that your mind is picking up on sounds a lot more. This happens even if you just close your eyes (to concentrate only on your sense of hearing) and pay attention to noises. Also, you say to turn off your TV and everything that makes noise, so there is a lot less background noises than there is normally. Therefore, you're able to pick up on other noises much more than you would otherwise... you can probably hear birds chirping from far away, dogs barking from across the neighborhood, and the neighbor having sex with his lover.

I really don't see anything special about a cup of water, or blinking really hard for that matter, that would increase your ear's sensitivity to noises, like SKA said. Instead, try this
      1. turn everything off, TV and what not.
      2. Blindfold yourself, so that you don't have to concentrate on keeping your eyes closed.
      3. Concentrate on sounds around you.

You will probably get the same results...

I made the hearing test a few weeks ago and it took about 5 minutes. All the time I was concentrating hard on hearing very low sounds and when I was done everything got significantly louder. I guess that same theory goes along here. Do you really think the blinking thing is necessary? How long can you maintain this enhanced hearing?
Currently practicing WILD. I quote Kaniaz who said it best: "The point of WILD is to piss me off". Though, I have not given up, far from it.

I suppose the cup of water isn't obligatory? This could just as well work by focussing on a lighter or a cellphone right?

Well anyways this is all very funny: But what if you do this right before you attempt WILD? And try to stay aware by focussing on your enviroment's sound? If your hearing is increased you are perhaps less likely to get that moment where you "suddenly" don't hear your physical eniroment anymore.

I haven't tried this yet, but I Certainly will. First to see if it actually works for me to increase the loudness of sound.

Sounds like a simple meditation, though it's the first time ever I've heard about the blinking part.

Try this - We all have this buzzing/humming sound in your head that we normally don't notice. The sound is due to blood moving around in your head (my theory) so it is completely natural. Try focusing on it - over time it will get louder and louder. Same thing happens with any sound - or any stimuli. When you focus on it it gets stronger. I'm sure this would work with smell, taste, touch as well as with hearing and seeing. It is the act of focusing on it, not being distracted which amplifies the sensation. You experience the world exactly as your brain interprets it from electrical impulses created by your senses - if you focus on one sense it will fill your "world".
Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience.
It isn't more complicated that that.
It is opening to or recieving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is,
without either clinging to it or rejecting it.

I had to do a hearing test for my air force pilot selection (which i failed by the way) and in it i was listening really hard for the sounds, and every now and then i'd hear like a distant beep and i'd often hear beeps, and i wasn't certain of whether they were beeps or in my head, so i just clicked the button whenever i possibly heard something.

Anyway, now i often hear sounds in my head, and i sometimes hear things and sometimes not, and it seems as if i am much more aware of my bilateral mild hearing loss, and much "deafer" than i was, even though I never thought i was hard of hearing before, but now I often don't hear things.

Yeah I noticed how where my attention is decides what I do and don't see/hear..etc

One day I was sitting in this room while in the room next to this one Music was playing. I remember hearing it and then I started to read something on this forum. My attention got pretty much completely consumed by the Topic I was Reading: So much that I wouldn't hear the Music anymore and thought: ''Hey why has the music stopped? and right at that moment I would hear the Music again realising I had been so focussed on what I read that I completely couldn't hear the music anymore.

Strange isn't it? I had this about 4 times in a row.

Same thing happens to me, except i have headphones on.
It also happens when i daydream, all of a suddenly I'm consumed by the thoughts rushing around in my brain, and only for that half a second i "come back" i realise i haven't been paying attention to anything, be it sound or sight.
Then i look around to re-evaluate where i am.. Then i realise i missed my bus.
