Which of the following avatars are best?

I know we've had posts about avatars, but I just thought I'd get your opinion on the various avatars I've had and see which you like the most. You can also enter this discussion if you're wondering which avatars that you've had in the past that people enjoy. I'm also bored (obviously) so yah...

Oooh, I'm loving the orchid! (Blue, you rock!) I also like the kitty and the angel equally.

the first one is alright. the second one is pixely and just looks bad in general (for avatar purposes anyway.) third is alright (and cats are way better than dogs). sad angel is way too angsty emo. the last one is great, but it's pixely and looks like it's been poorly resized. that is one vibrant flower...has the picture been manipulated?

No. That's what happens when you don't have $300 (or whatever) for Photoshop and are stuck with the "resize" function in Paint.

Thanks guys. Just thought I'd ask. I need to find those other pictures.

There's a resize fuction in Paint? Oh, now you tell me...

Well anyway, Ame, I've got PhotoSuite, and I think the compression's pretty good. If you want something resized, just link it and I'll get right on it. The orchid looks fine to me, though -- don't know what you're on about this time, hysteria...

well don't get pissy, i wasn't trying to be a jerk. i don't have any fancy programs either, i'm also stuck with paint (unless i pester a friend to do resizing for me). it does irk me when images are poorly resized, but i'm also quite a perfectionist. i'm sure that explains why no one else (at least rak) can tell, because it's glaringly obvious to me.

I know this is sorta OT, but for those of you not springing for Photoshop (and if you need any help, I have the full Creative Suite 9 / CS2) -

The GIMP is an excellent application that is opensource/free and runs on most platforms. It's a little clunky, but it has all the functionality of probably Photoshop 7. (CS/CS2 have been major updates that I'm still relearning)

You can download the GIMP for free from:
      http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/

      The homepage is at:
      http://www.gimp.org/windows/

The crapintosh version is at: http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/ (OS-X only!)

      Linux/BSD/Solaris from: http://www.gimp.org/unix/

It's also available in just about every imaginable language...

As an example: Here's my interpretation of an "Amethyst Star" created in The Gimp in a bit less than five minutes:

yes macintosh is crap, because i just love virus' spyware, adware, crashes and constantly updating with service packs to stop hackers tinckering with my fibberbytes.

(hey i justt realised their is no sarcasm smiley)

although i do agree the gimp is rather good

I'm not trying to start a religious debate here. I worked for Crapple/Claris/Filemaker for years. I wrote code for the things... I've been using them since before a large number of people on this forum were hatched. So I have a gawd-given right to call it the Crapintosh...

I think in most (if not all) Gimp is better than Photoshop could ever be. And though Apple isn't my favorite, it's better than Microsoft products. At least it never gets viruses and doesn't crash every second......Though I admit Linux is top of the line.

I hesitate to reply due to the OT thang - but have you played with CS2? As a photographer, it's really hard for me to give the nod to _anything_ else. The power CS2 gives me for creating stock photography (which I subsequently sell) is second to none.

I run Windows under VMWare on a duallie Xeon P4. When Windows gets testy, I just switch to the host-os (Linux), kill -9 on windows, and let it reboot back into virtual space. And being able to assign a processor to each OS with the stability of VMWare - it's really like having a second machine. I have two machines configured that way, and then a host of Linux-only machines - including my entertainment machine on my TV running MythTV...
