Excerpts from a Cat's Diary

===========================

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are Fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage.

Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...

At least dogs can be made useful.

However the question what one is a smarter, a dog or a cat... That is a hard question. Seriously. I don't think it can be said as easily as butterfly-moose intelligence differences.

...uhm... the humor in it is really you own or owned a dog or cat. This e-mail really hits the spot lol. From the way a dog and a cat acts lol. What a parody great!

I agree, and they are smart in such different ways that I don't think you can really compare it.
It's a bit like comparing a human who is autistic but scores highly on IQ tests, to someone who is highly empathic but scores poorly on IQ tests. ( I gave this example not an analogy to cats and dogs but as an example of another case where it's difficult to compare intelligence )

It never ceases to amaze me how smart cats are. I hear stories everyday about how the owner just picked up the phone to call the vet to make an appointment, and the cat ran under the bed and wouldn't come out at all after that!

Like dodobird said, it's hard to compare the different types of intelligence, but I think cats are very intuitive - almost to the point of reading our minds, or emotions. We tell clients that they need to stay calm because they transfer they fear and apprehensive onto their cats when they are in the clinic. If the owner is calm and confident, and doesn't coddle the cat, most likely the cat will act accordingly. But if the owner is all wigged out and nervous, those are the cats that usually become so scared that they turn fractious and extremely stressed. It makes a huge difference on the emotions cats can sense from people.

oops sorry for rambling.

LMAO

EDIT: Seriously though, I think cats may be smarter than dogs, but I prefer dogs anyways, because I find them to be much more loyal and freindly. But If I had a thing to translate pet thoughts to human words, I would get a cat.
I had a strange dream last night...

That is SO true! Cats are far more sensitive that what they're given credit for. I made the mistake of telling Lusa that she was getting spayed on such and such date, that we couldn't let her have kittens, it was for the best, blah, blah. Damned if she didn't get sick with her URI the next day and we had to cancel the surgery. I'm sure she was picking up stress vibes from me being a worried pet parent. Or maybe she's even a little "psychic."

Haha! It seems like that happens a lot where I work - URI being at the top of the list, I'd say. Isn't it funny how that happens? But the kitties can only put it off for so long...
