Next you can drive the garbage truck!!! |

So.. after +/- 20 years of odd (& I do mean odd) jobs I finally start my first career tomorrow morning. This should be the last job I ever have, when I'm putting on my suit in the morning I'll be thinking of that Men In Black quote about putting on the last suit you'll ever wear. So what is it? I'll cut to the chase.. driving a city bus. It will pay more than twice as much as any job I've ever had AND has all benefits (medical & dental) as well as an awesome pension plan. Once my 2 yr. probationary period is over with I'll be making nearly $25/hr. and that ain't too shabby, gabby. |

Wow! I didn't know driving a bus paid that well! Glad that you have found a job that has some certainty to it (pension and such). I hope you like it. If I were you, I wouldn't really care about the 'last suit you will ever wear' stuff. I mean, regardless of your job, you still have the rest of your life. What you do for a living doesn't absolutely determine how you live your life. |

Oooh congrats. I did hear those jobs paid really well. Great going. |

Congratulations.. and you're right.. the salary ain't too shabby at all! |

First week down, and boy was it a doozy. VERY hard work. We drove almost all day every day, that's the easy part. "Homework" each and every night, that's a real sonofabitch. Gotta memorize a whole route every night. Seems to be getting easier now after doing 4 of them. Talk about an excercise in memory tuning. Only had one dream all week, but it was an epic, action movie complete (start-middle-end) with a twist, seemed to go on for hours. No lucidity though. Hoping that all this memory work will pay off in dreams, at least I've got REM rebound to look forward to. LOL! |

Yeah, I would say getting used to the work/routes/stuff is really hard at first.. But I also would say you get used to it. After a while, it will probably go faster and just a normal part of work. ^__^ |

Well.. it's almost over, my training that is, pretty soon It'll just be "work". It's all over for me now but the final exam (pretty much just a technicality at this point) and the grad. Pretty sweet job too I must say. Sure there's some BS (what job doesn't have that) but all in all I'd say it's a pretty great place to be. |

So.. I start work today. The good news is that I have all my weekends off (that's totally unheard of for fresh grads) the bad news is that I'm on night shift. Which means I'll be doing mainline routes 'til the wee hours. I'll probably get a LOT of nutjobs. Could be worse... works fine for me, I'll get to spend all day with my kids & work while the family sleeps AND have both Saturdays and Sundays off all Summer. Sweeet. |
