Tell us about your brush with fame.

Surely many of you have met some one famous, know a local celebrity or have had a piece of fame for your own self. Well, now's your chance to brag about it so, what are you waiting for?

I'll start with a BAD (really bad) example: I share a birthday with OJ Simpson. Some one stab me please

I'm from Liverpool and i've met Steven Gerrard and Derek Acorah. When in Blackpool going to meet Derek Acorah, I bumped into Jeremy Beadle when he was walking about (he was turning on the Blackpool lights that night)

I know several local radio talk show hosts and a local radio DJ/comedian. And I've met quite a few more.

I also sat in on the final radio show (along with my Dad) for Denny, a guy who goes by "The Rock-a-billy Rebel", drinking "Rebel Lagers" (Budweiser). He's since gotten a new show on the same station in Tampa (88.5 FM, WMNF)

I also knew a TV show host for while. No, make that three TV show hosts:

Dick Bennick Sr., performing under the name "Dr. Paul Bearer" (now deceased), hosted "Creature Feature". I knew him through a magic club I was in.

Haywood Henson (does a country music show). Kind of a dork. I've done repairs for him, I've sold him stuff, and I've played a gig or two with him. I also sat backstage whilst a friend of mine was on his TV show once.

There's another TV music show host that I've met and done a few things with but I can't even think of the guy's name now. Anyway, he was a total dweeb. He only had his lame show because his daddy owned the station. What's that moron's name? Mike something... Mike Puchelli (sp?), that's it. He had "The Mike Puchelli Show" on V32. What a waste of "fame" that was.

Oh, I've also done repairs for some big-time musicians who've come to the local concert venue but, since I never got to meet any of them (only "their people"), I won't even try to recall the names.

I went to high school with Opera star Denyce Graves and author Tracy Chevalier (Girl with the Pearl Earring). I've met Dizzy Gillespie, Bobby McFerrin, Leonard Bernstein, Harry Belafonte, Richard Thomas, Christopher Hogwood, and others.

But my biggest claim to fame was on the 8th of this month when Grammy-award winning conductor John McLaughlin Williams conducted a 140-piece orchestra in a performance of an original work of mine at the Kennedy Center.

      Cool. Way to go!

I was a Bobby McFerrin fan way before he was cool. He got big with "Don't worry, be happy" on his Simple Pleasures album, the album I like the least because he sold out to pop.

Oh and one of my 7 friends who died last year was Bob Seger's bass player before he made it big time.

EDIT: Oh-oh, and my boss and long-time friend was a one-hit wonder country musician He topped several of the "major" independant country charts for 9 weeks in 1993.

My sister used to do Anthony Bonsante's (from The Contender) hair. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Bonsante)

I saw Vince Neil at a Las Vegas airport.

Mark Kunerth, a former writer for the TV show Friends, and a current writer for The Bill Engvall Show, is from my town.

When I was little I got Austin St. John's autograph. Most people will know him better as Jason, the Red Ranger, from Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers!

That's all I can think of now...

Les Dudak (who used to play with Warren Zevon) sat in with a R&B/blues band I drummed for (The Dave Ware Group) several times at various shows we did.

I also know and have sat in with Tommy McCoy, a fairly famous, world-traveling blues musician.

I've sold things to, do repairs for and see on a regular basis a musician who's getting fairly big now, Noel Rosa.

I've met a few famous people.

I went with my sister to meet soap opera stars when they were in town for some sort of promotion. Can't remember who exactly though, i'm not a soap fan.

Met some WWF wrestlers, Sean Michaels, Greg the Anvil, Million Dollar Man, one of the Bushwackers, British Bulldog.. and a whole pile of others I can't remember anymore. This was quite a while ago. They came to Niagara Falls and I just hung around outside the arena, all the wrestlers came out sooner or later for some fresh air. They were really friendly.

I went to school with some NLL players. Still see them around occasionally. (national lacrosse league)

I saw Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson at the mall near my house a couple years ago. I didn't approach them though, I'm not really the type to swarm a celebrity.

I treat cats belonging to some big name local people from the Detroit area, and talk to them on a regular basis.

I've made it in the newpaper a bunch of times, for sports and academics. And I was on TV once too, but I never got to see the tape!

I've had a lot of contact... some of it not so good. I'll skip my political involvement and the attention it got during the 90's, but it was significant.

I know Steve Poltz, and have run sound for him three times. Steve is best known as Jewel's guitarist, though they've parted ways and Steve is the guy who discovered her and gave her a start - and he's been around a LOT longer than she has. I've also run sound for Rachel Davis, and will be doing so again in September with Shout Sister Shout. I know a few others who have made it pretty big in music, but if you're not into folk or extreme alternative or classical pipe organists you probably wouldn't recognize them.

I was Waldon Reed Jr.'s first "guitar teacher," of sorts - I jammed with him, taught him some basics and turned him on to fusion jazz. You probably don't know Waldon Reed, but you should. He's a guitarist's guitarist... I'm not exaggerating when I say he's one of the best in the world. He has a small following throughout Europe and in Asia, but is relatively unheard of here in the US. He actually produced one of my songs a few years back!

ok well only the English will know this one but i've sat and had conversations and stuff with the presenter of "The really wild show", i doubt the present one, i met him 5 yrs ago... though really i doubt thats still running now, he looks like such a quirky guy, if i saw him now i;d probably take the piss out of his facial expressions.

Oh also one of my good friends is something like third best under 18( or total, ill ask him next) sprinter in England for the 100m. He's 16 like me but he's like 100% sure he'll be ready for London 2012, cant wait to see him on TV.

      Here's one of mine.

In high school I was in the band. We were about to put on a performance, but we didn't have enough music stands. My band director asked me to come with him to pick up some more music stands from a nearby studio.

We went inside and there were these guys there. My director starts talking with them and they are all laughing. And I am just standing there partially paying attention. Finally they helped us carry out a bunch of stand to the truck.

As we drove away my director says to me, "You know who that was, don't you?"

      And I was like, "No...should I?"

And he said, "Those guys were from DEVO".

Funny...I had only seen them in their videos. They looked so average in real life. Nothing like the weirdness of their videos.

But I guess that's so true about almost all celebrities.

TwoShadows' encounter with Devo reminded me of another encounter of mine a few years back...

I was working with a quality consultant at the time. After a workday was over, he (knowing my interest in music) asked if I'd like to join him in visiting his son.

We traveled just a few miles north of 8 mile, the northern border of Detroit, to a completely nondescript building with only a number on it. At the back door, he just waved. (Turned out there were motion detectors and security cameras all over.) A young man opened the door and invited us in.

Hanging over the staircase we descended was a gold record... for Emenem. Turns out that this guy - the son of the man I was with - was a recording engineer... the one who did Mathers' first bit hit album. He worked with most of the big hip-hop and rap names in the Detroit area.

His little studio was amazing - beautifully constructed and appointed, with equipment ranging from the best vintage tube stuff from the 50's and 60's through to the most modern (at the time) digital gear.

You'll never believe what he listened to for his own enjoyment. Classic jazz; Bebop. He had a big collection of vintage vinyl there - all jazz.

He moved his studio to L.A. shortly after that. Not sure where things are with him now, but I know he's doing well. He wrote one of the songs in Disney's "The Lion King" and took credit for it with his real name, which he never used for the Detroit stuff. His name is Jared Gosling. (I probably have the spelling wrong.)

A few years ago, I walked past Robbie Williams on a bridge and I got a hug from Michaela Strachan. Robbie just looked back for a second and smiled, and he didn't stop for an autograph. >_>

I made a video of me and my friends going using our "couch sled" where we put skis on a couch and went down a hill and stuff. Ebaumsworld had me sign release papers and such because they were going to use it on their new TV show. Though, they never made it haha.

      The video is here: http://cantaloupearmy.com/videos/couchsled/
Enjoy the other videos on my website, there, too.

A new video I'd like you to watch is here, it's short and you'll like it, promise.

So I was ALMOST on TV, haha.

I've been in the newspaper three times. Once with a school band, once in a story about my Mom and me doing volunteer work and once about a prize-winning haunted house event I did while in the Boy Scouts, way back when.

I've been in seven parades - some marching, some riding floats - several of which were televised.

When I was about 16 or so, Miss Lakeland had a huge crush on me. I think she was 18

I've been in the newspaper a time or two I think, nothing much, just something to do with my library. I just found out that my neighbor, and long-time friend of the family's nephew is a fairly big-time country songwriter. He's written songs for Brad Paisley, Clay Walker, Tracy Byrd, Terri Clark, and Joe Nichols, to name a few. My mother went to school with Fred Newman.

I've met and talked to several well-known knifemakers, and attended a seminar by Wayne Goddard himself. I have a set of sharpening crock sticks given to me by my neighbor, the same one I mentioned before, that has the name J M Hendrix scratched into the case. I haven't yet asked him to be sure, but I think you can figure out pretty easily who that would be.

I can't really think of much else, but I may be forgetting something obvious, as usual.

I was an aired caller on the Sally Jessy Raphael national radio talk show back in 1984-5 or so. This was before she got her Jerry Springer-esque TV show.
