Height and attractiveness?

I have no idea if this is just me, but I keep hearing that women like tall men, and then I hear that was just a past thing, and that women like guys their own height, or a little taller, or even a little shorter. Can someone explain this to me? FYI: In case you are curious, I am about average height or a little taller.

From tests that I've heard, women generally identify taller men as sexier. In one such test, the women were asked under what standards they would date the shorter men, and the womens replies were something like "I'd date the shorter guy over the taller guy if the taller guy turned out to be a pedophile or something". As for men, men generally tend to like women who are the same height or a bit shorter then them. I'm not sure if this really has any reasoning besides perhaps taller indicates more capable of stuff, better food gatherer or something, I don't know.

Well, I've always known one thing: being tall has more advantages than disadvantages. I'm currently 6'1, and 15 years old. I'm projected to be 6'4 at full height, and I hope this increases my chances of getting relationships, because I'm worried about that, and I'm socially nervous. So, I think and hope my height will benefit me in the future.
