The Winter 2008 WakataGames! Introduction to the Winter 2008 WakataGames! A competition that will pit member against member to grub for points and see who comes out on top! A new Game will be posted every few days. These Games are unpredictable, and can range from simple questions to searching the Web and feretting out a certain article on a certain website to being on Chat at a certain time to…well, you get the point. It’s a grab bag. Whoever answers/posts correctly first will get a certain number of internets. ‘Internets’ are points. Usually each Game will be worth 100 internets, and will feature in addition a bonus question/Game worth a varying number of internets that will be indicated. What’s in it for the players? At the end of the Games (TBA), the player with the most internets will be declared the winner and will receive a special banner to put in your signature, declaring to all that you won the WakataGames! I will PM it to the winner to avoid theft. Runners-up will also receive a banner. If you wish to participate in the Games, please PM me (NOT post) and I will add you to the player list. But don’t stop reading here! Please continue on to the all-important Rules! The Rules If you want to play, you must follow the Rules. Comments about the Games should be PM’d to me, NOT posted here. I want to keep comment-swamping down to make it unnecessary for players to scroll through pages of comments, wondering if a new Game has been posted. I’m not going to go all Post Nazi on your ass for posting a ittle wittle comment, but I really want to try and reserve space for Games, answers to Games, gloating by Game winners, and whining and finger-pointing by sore losers. Players must bookmark/favorite this page and make a commitment to check in every few days or so, and to do their best to participate in the Games. We don’t want players who won’t play. Be a good sport. Good sportsmanship is a virtue. This is just a game, treat it as such. Closure So know you know about the Games. Some will choose to play, others will not. (I'd try Wikipedia for this one ) Note: more than one person can win this bonus...anyone who posts a fact about him gets 50 internets, but you cannot post something that has already been posted and you cannot win this bonus more than once. Njörð - God of the seas but also controller of fire. -Ruler of the winds and also a good source of wealth. -Folk would pray to him when travelling over the seas or fishing in the seas. -Njörðr, together with his (unnamed in Norse times) sister, is the father of the deities: Freyr and Freyja. -He also had an unsuccessful marriage to the snow-shoe goddess: Skaði. So that's 150 internets right? Putting me in the leading position as of this post.

Bonus Game 2 – 50 internets When the Catholic church was deciding what days to have certain Christian celebrations on, they wanted to keep new Christian converts happy by choosing days that pagan holidays had been on. For example, Christmas had previously been the Winter Solstice (some pagan religion), Yule (the Norse) and Saturnalia (Roman religion). The church wanted to convert people from the religions that celebrated these holidays. The pagans said, “Okay, we’ll convert, but we want to keep our holidays.” So the church, always eager for more believers, put Christian holidays on those days to keep the (former) pagans happy.
