Smile Who made the smileys ':)' on DV?

Its probably a stupid question, but its bugging me, the '' face looks dull and depressing, it needs to be brighte and way more yellow.
Why's it so dull and why's no one changed it already?
      Nothing is perfect.

It's the classic smiley that has been on DV since the olden days. I think its perfect just the way it is.

It's not a DV thing. It's a vbulletin thing. vbulletin is a particular board/forum (the best there is actually) which (icedawg?) chose to go with for the community. That smiley (and a few more) comes with the default smiley package for everyone who purchases vbulletin. Smileys can be deleted and also added.

Actually, that smiley was originally on the phpBB forum. When the board software was changed to vB, it came with different smileys (which I hated), so I took the liberty of changing them back to the original ones. Here's the thread I made when I changed the smilies around.

That's interesting. I remember when I had a vbulletin forum for my site those smilies came in the standard pack. I suppose they're (the smilies) aren't exclusive to vbulletin then.

hmm I'm not sure... maybe there was an extra smiley package that overrode some of the original ones? I dunno...
