You could reaffirm your intention once when you feel you're on the brink of falling asleep.

Or, you could repeat your intention once and wait until your mind wanders before repeating it again, doing this until you fall asleep.

Or, you could find an entirely way to maintain your intention which allows you to fall asleep.

The effectiveness of the mantra isn't in the actual words or repeating of the words. It's in your intention and the maintenance of that intention.

Not believe, intend. You've got intend to be aware.

Believing implies that you don't have to do anything because it will happen on it's own.

Intending implies that it's not going to happen on it's own. You're going to make it happen.

There are many things that can induce insomnia. In mine opinion, the best way to rectify insomnia is to find its cause, and pull the problem by the root.

Personally, instead of vocally repeating mine mantras, I write them. Every night--unless I'm swamped with work--I write fifty times on a sheet of paper, "In mine dreams, I will become more skeptical of mine surroundings. I will recognise an anomaly and become lucid". By the time I'm finished, the words are seared in mine head, so I don't have to vocally or mentally repeat them. For me, this technique rarely fails. [Shrugs] That said, however, it might not work for you at all. [Smirks] Never know until you try.
