Scary sleep experience

My sleeping experiences have been scary lately. The dreams aren't scary, it's just the state of my dreams that are scary. Tonight has been one of if not the scariest so far. Like 99% of my dreams, this one was lucid and realistic (Realistic in just a physical sense really). The lucidity was very...unusual. While I was aware that I was dreaming, I think something was trying to convince me that I wasn't. My mind or dream self had a little battle of which reality was the reality. I think the dream state was winning because I was suddenly afraid that my real body didn't exist. Usually when I have lucid dreams, I'm somewhat aware of my body and that it's sleeping. This time though, I was absolutely unaware that I was real and that there was a real body. I began to feel that there was nothing beyond my dream self. I have a scary feeling that this might be a medical condition. Have you ever heard of anything like this?

Hi brittney, No, I don't think you have a medical condition. I do believe that our psyche is eternal. Psyche is the Greek word for mind/soul/spirit. That is our eternal nature, the part that goes on after death. Our physical bodies are our temporal self, part of a role or persona we're playing during this particular lifetime on Earth, and I suspect that may be what the dream was trying to convey. Psyche also means butterfly, and butterflies are a symbol of rebirth and resurrection, because of the way they go from caterpillar to cocoon to breaking out as a beautiful winged being. You're okay, and will be okay forever... I once told someone that when I die, they do whatever they like with my body, as I won't need it anymore! She said, well they'll probably put it out for a yard sale. LOL!!! In this day, with orgran transplants, she may not be too far from the truth though. The body is not ME... the mind/soul/spirit is ME! Knowing that makes a difference.
