      Jetlag tips?

So I live in Seattle, WA, and am going on a business trip to Ireland for a week. I need to be pretty focused right away,. due to the nature of the work. Any tips for handling the jetlag? I'm thinking of just staying up until the evening of the first day comes (I will be arriving at 4pm local or so, meaning it's just maybe 5-6 hours, which I'll probably spend walking around). But once Monday comes around, I'll want to be close to ready . I'm hoping the extra staying-awake, combined with the long work days (and inevitable guiness-drinking with those folks) will have me tired enough by bed time that I'll be falling asleep at a good hour without having to worry too much about it.

      So yeah, any other tips?

Ireland??? Where??? Where where where?? Dublin?? Heheehe Omg I love Ireland to pieces. Make sure to have this candy called TAXI BARS.

Man that is one heck of a flight. What is it like, 10 hours?

Yeah the best way to get rid of jet lag is to stay awake until it is night in the place you are arriving at. And you'll end up sleeping normally.

      Eat extra healthy maybe.

Yeah, what Mes said works. I went to europe two summers ago, and I'm going to New Zealand this summer, (19 hour flight) and they always tell me to get up and go when I get there, not rest.

Ok, so my plan looks like it'll work . Thanks for the tips!

It's like a 9-10 hour flight to London from here, and then a quicker flight to Cork (which is where I will be staying).

Say, do people work on Saturdays, usually, in Ireland? I guess that's irrelevant, cause I think the call center I'm going to operates on the day. We'll see. I can't wait to try the food! Thang goodness I'm no vegetarian

Oddly enough, I have never suffered from jet lag, even on 6+ hour time differences (must be that inconsistent sleep schedule ). Anyways, if you're still drowsy in the morning, blame it on the irish pubs ...

I travel to Germany 2-3 times a year. There are a few things you can do, here is my technique:

Get up at your normal time on the day of the trip, or an hour or two early if possible, the last thing you need to do is sleep late.

If you are a frequent flyer and have access to the website for your airline, keep an eye on your seat assignment and if possible change it so that you have nobody sleeping next to you.

Avoid all intake of caffiene that day, especially on the flight. Wait until the turn off the lights and try to sleep. If sleep will not come, just lay there with your eyes closed resting and daydreaming. It is suprising how much it helps.

You will most likely land in the early morning, between 7 and 11. You now need to shock your system, a couple of cups of coffeee work well for that.

After you check into the hotel, get out of there and walk around. If you stay in the room, you WILL take a nap.

Stay awake as late as you possibly can, up to 10pm if possible. Before bed, a couple of alcoholic drinks, maybe a couple of beers helps.

Get up the next morning at your regular time, go to bed after 10pm.

The above method will usually snap me into the time zone within two days. You can substitute melatonin for the alcohol if you prefer.
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

Yes, it was very last minute. I posted this thread right after I found out I *might* be going (and was waiting for confirmation). I can't believe they went forward with it and got the tickets - they were expensive tickets (for "next day" travel, so no surprise there).

I will be. In the morning, I have to get to work. In the evening, it's often too dark/foggy. I'll do most of my picture taking on Sunday, when I just take the day to enjoy myself here. I take my camera where ever I go, but I haven't had the time to go many places yet .

For the jetlag - walk around and yawn.
