Question LD and the glass of wine.

Hi everyone, i'm new posting around here, but i've been reading for a while and i have a doubt.

i've red that alcohol prevents the REM cycle from happening.

but in the other hand, i've also red that some people enjoy a glass of wine before sleeping and that actually helps them.

i like to ocassionally have some wine during dinner or lunch.

my question is: does alcohol prevent the rem cycle only in high amounts?
and actually help in low amounts, like... a glass or two?

      thanks!!

If you drink heavily it can suppress your REM cycle, a couple of glasses for me, helps me to have more vivid dreams.

I think it varies with some people though, but in my experience, a little drink does no harm.

      Welcome to the forum BTW

NO, I usually have it if I am having some late evening tea and will have some cheese and wine, just because I love cheese, and wine. It's like a treat to muyself, but some expensive cheese and a decent red - enjoy it then go to bed.

I wouldn't drink specifically before going to bed to increase any chances of lucid dreaming.

Well I don't normally have it with dinner, more late evening tea - so about an hour before bed? Maybe sooner.

I don't know about alcohol but I do know that sleeping pills decrease your REM state greatly.

Do you know if there a kind of sleeping pill that does not affect your REM? Do sleeping pills make it impossible to dream?

I don't think it's "impossible" to dream, and no I don't know of any sleeping pills that do not affect your REM.

The problem I have encountered with alcohol is that though it is easy to fall asleep after drinking it, I often wake up a few hrs. later and cannot go back to sleep. That definitely puts a damper on my REM cycle!
