      My Polyphasic sleep journal

It seems that there are a few people starting polyphasic sleep cycles right now. Probably because we're all college students who have a month to do nothing. That's my case anyway. I'm going to attempt to get into polyphasic sleep for the month and then see what happens with my class schedule.

I'm planning a triphasic sleep pattern. From carefully looking through my dream journal it seems that one complete sleep cycle for me lasts just over three hours, and minor sleep cycles last about half that time. That's what I'm going to base my cycle off of. For my half cycles I will set an alarm, but for my core sleep phase I will let my body tell me when it's time to get up. (I'm going to drink a lot before going to bed and I'll wake up having to go to the bathroom.) That way if my body is really tired for some reason I'll let it sleep for six or seven hours.

I'm thinking about a system like this:
      2:00am - 5:30am Core sleep
      8:00am - 9:30am Secondary sleep
      2:00pm - 3:30pm Nap time

That shouldn't effect my life in any way since I'm usually up until 2 and in bed until 10 anyway. I usually don't do anything between 2 and 3 except maybe do some writing, but that can be moved to my wake period in the morning.

I will record my sleeping in this thread as well as my dream journal. I expect either an all together drop out, or a major increase in dream recall. My psychological analysis of what will happen says I might do both

I'm used to 9 or 10 hours of sleep and this is only 6:30, it might be a painful convert for the first few days so everyone cheer me on to get me over that hump.

Ah! Ninja..looks like we're in the same boat.

I'm glad to see you're doing this too...will help motivate me. I've got some weeks/month to play with this, though my schedule's uncertain after that.

I'll be monitoring your thread too...the more to do the better.

I know about the adjustmant...I'm on a different schedule, the more traditional polyphasic of 3 hrs core and 3, 20 min naps. I'm curious about yours...seems a bit more hospitable so to speak.

Let us know how this endeavor goes...hope we can correspond and share experiences.

      Best of luck

Sounds like an interesting schedule, Ninja!
I'll be keeping an eye in here to see how you're progressing

      Good luck and sweet dreams!

      Mt first entry

      2:00 - 5:25
My biological clock is right on target, I got up at 5:25, but I had very poor sleep because this was on my mind. All in all, in that 3 and a half block devoted to sleep I probably only got twenty minutes of actual sleep time. No dreams, but a bad headache.

Well now it's 7:15 and I feel fine, I'm not tired at all and that headache went away after reading Dr. LaBerge's book for a little while.

      8:00 - 9:30
Well now I'm a little bit tired again. I'm not sure if I got to sleep or not during this phase. It's nice to know that my biological clock is dead on though. I got up at 9:27.

      2:00 - 3:30
I'm still a little bit tired. I've been yawning all day and have a feeling that this will last for a few more days.

I have a flu. For the next three or four days I will be sleeping regularly. That bums me out, I just started. Will start again when I feel better. Friday maybe.
