      Lucid dreaming not during REM?

I have often been tired and gone to sleep for a 15-20 minutes for an afternoon nap. Sometimes, I could have been on public transportation, between classes, after an afternoons work before going out again... My point is that sometimes in such a short nap I can 2 or 3 lucid dreams lasting a minute or two. Am I in REM? I have heard many people say that a person can lucid dream only in REM but I have many times, when in the right state, been able to lucid dream with in a couple minutes of laying down to rest.

Same here. I do this about once or twice a week. I think it is something different though.

Nah its not just REM sleep you can lucid in, basically you can become lucid in any dream, and you dream in both REM and non-REM sleep

You dream (vividless, crappy, and so on) in non-REM, too. But if you get lucid and the dream is fine you probably just jumpped faster in the REM period.
