      Healthy Foods

      With the oncoming cough, cold and flu season coming, I thought it would be good to make a list of known foods that contain natural medicines and antioxidants. Please note that I am NOT against taking medicine if you really need it, but I think it is never a bad thing to eat foods that already contain healthy components.

      One particular article that I found interesting said that mandarin oranges are the most powerful citrus fruit in helping to fight off allergies and cold symptoms, containing six to seven times the levels of synephrine, a natural decongestant, than other citrus fruit.       Nice idea - building a list.

      Giving your body all the nutrients it needs is the priority IMO.
      So, on the one hand, I'm inclined to tell you to use multivitamins, but then again, sometimes a vitamin has a negative effect on you as well (overdose, or genetic reasons)
      Maybe one day we'll have common-place machines that can measure what we need and don't need

      Other than that, here's a list of good foods for health/wellness:

      - Almonds (and most nuts)
      - Blueberries
      - Oats, the natural sort
      - Fruit in general - apples, oranges, grapes (And yes, fructose is far better than sucrose, argue as people like)
      - Honey
      - Green leafy veggies (remember your schoolteacher's wise words ?)
      - Beans, legumes, especially goa beans, green beans, etc

      Try uping your fluid intake aswell.

      Ive got the start of a cold at the minute. I can normally hold it off and stop it becoming a problem by eating loads of fruit, taking some vitamins, resting - but still getting fresh air, having a good attitude and drinking loads. And no, i dont mean alcohol. xD

      Start excersising aswell if you dont already. But you should probably stop excersising for a bit if you feel a cold coming on.

      Thanks for contributing everyone! And DuB - a lot of those foods actually look good! I love olives, turkey, and yogurt to name a few

      Awesome website, I try to eat only whats healthy for me, basically only meat I eat is fish and chicken/turkey. Its hard though, hamburgers turn out so good with the George Forman grill, especially if you buy the extra lean and squeeze all the fat out of it every 30 seconds or so while you're cooking it. Makes for a fresher hamburger than any resturant could serve.

      Green Tea contains a lot of antioxidants I hear but then it does contain Caffeine, in small amounts mind, but still I avoid all caffeine and I know quite a few people here try to avoid it as much as possible.
