      David Goggin, Ultramarathoner

I got an email about this guy. I wonder if he's human.
He's a Navy elite SEAL, and runs purely for charity purposes to raise funds for needy families
      Truly inspirational.

The reason I posted here though, he claims he gets 3 hours of sleep per night, and spends almost his entire day on strenous activities
Check his site, especially the 'daily workout': http://the100mileman.com/davidgoggins/

Makes us look like a bunch of babies, doesn't it

wow, that is insane. And his 3 hours of sleep are monophasic too! I wonder if he sleeps in on the weekends or anything b/c 3 hours of daily sleep is practically unheard of for a monophasic sleeper.

That's ridiculous. Why anybody would want to live a life devoid of free time that you could use to expand your mind is beyond me. Those Navy Seals are some of the toughest guys on the planet. Part of me wanted to become one, in fact. Part of me still does *sigh*.

Some people don't require as much sleep as the normal person. Some people are actually better off not getting 7-10 hours of sleep each night.

I would love to only require 3 hours a night monophasic.

I wouldn't suggest to anyone. I've heard and read about people, usually elderly, who sleep only 3-4 hours a night and do not suffer from it.

But for an athlete with hard training and especially endurance training ( marathons age your body quite a bit ) I don't find it very wise. Yeah, he has good cause, which I don't deny, but wouldn't suggest to anyone. In some stage, you start to go to negative results in my opinion. This guy has lots of willpower, which is crucial for a training like that.

I've had myself seasons when I slept very little and did very hard training at the days. For 4 months I trained about 7-12 hours a day and slept for 5-7 hours. Although, not all of it was super-intensive, but it was very straining.

Results, I got stronger and better, but man... I don't feel like training *that* hardcore anymore. Not that I can either, because the time schedule ^^
Jujutsu is the gentle art. It's the art where a small man is going to prove to you, no matter how strong you are, no matter how mad you get, that you're going to have to accept defeat. That's what jujutsu is.

I find it somewhat ironic that such a large proportion of the patrons of this site are interested in finding ways to sleep less.

maybe, but I think that is also fascinating. If you can sleep 3 hours and not physically or mentally suffer from it.

And this is after all Sleep and Dreams forum, which doesn't have to cover LD.

but yeah, you could see it as ironic.

It is ironic, but only on the surface. Some of the polyphasic schedules (e.g. uberman, once adapted) actually give you more LDs (WILDs)
      At least in my case

I won't comment much since that field is something I am completely unfamiliar with but it's sounds like it could easily work.

Better quality than quantity, you could say
