Unhappy My friend died in his sleep last night

I got news this morning that my friend died in his sleep last night. Basically, he was choking on fluids in his throat. They found him cold and with puke in his bed. For some reason I keep wondering what his last dream was.

What do you guys think? Even if it was a nightmare, I would like to know. thanks!

Well, It's hard to say really. We'd have to figure out what happens to us in death to really come to a conclusion. If our consciousness or "soul" or whatever leaves our physical body, then it is possible that perhaps he could remember what he last dreamt about in his physical body. Maybe it was just like any normal dream.

I have a feeling that some of the responses we will be seeing in this thread are going to be of a more "beyond dreaming" criteria then anything.

I'm sorry for your loss. =/

I promise I'm not trying to be funny.
It is possible he was dreaming of drowning.
It is also quite possible he wasn't dreaming. It is very possible that he had no idea that anything was happening to him.
---o--- my DCs say I'm dreamy.

      I'm sorry.

I don't think he was dreaming. He probably was awake.

I don't think there's any way we could possibly know what he was dreaming... or even if he was...

I'm with Shift here, but I'll pray for his family. At least it was peaceful.

how do you know it was peaceful and not torturous?

anyways, I heard somewhere that you shouldn't drink before you sleep. does your friend drink? he might had a hungover while sleeping and chocked on his own vomit...

He was asleep, allegedly... Maybe he had a bad dream, but most dreams don't have pain in them.

      not torturous?
      ...a tad tactless...

I think he could indeed have been dreaming about drowning, seeing as how sometimes your mind translates elements from the real world into the dream world.
That is, until his mind ceased to exist.
      Current projects:
      -Acquire the Aurora
      -Test galatamine, huperzine and choline
-Find smartwatch app for RC reminders at certain intervals
-Ressurect my dream log here, and become more active

Actually same thing happend to me as your friend but luckily it was in an operation room with doctors.
I have a sickness and do some examination in the intestines and I done it some times and I allways sleeping while they do it.

I usually remember to the time they put me to sleep but that time I was choking I didn't remember anything near that time so if it helps maybe he didn't feel it or how I should explain.
I guess my mind blocked it and I hope it did it for him so he didn't feel the choking.

Well, I'm sorry for your loss. What I'm about to say may seem a tad cruel, and without tact, so I'm going to put it in a spoiler. It's what I honestly think happened, but it's up to you whether or not you want to know.

Wow how insensitive to post about it in a forum...

Anyway, your friend was unlikely to dream anything while dying in pain. He was awake and pretty much aware of what was going on.

It's a stereotype that if you sleep you necessarily die unconscious and unaware of pain. Movies are to blame. They show how you can drink sleeping pills and peacefully die, but it's not like that at all.

If there are people here who feel suicidal, think of it...

Hey, I have a friend who had a frat brother die around Christmas break because of this. If your friend was drinking this is what happened.

When you drink, the part of your brain that is responsible for short term memory is disabled, which is why they repeat themselves over and over and over again. That is the first thing to go after your loss of stability. Like my girlfriend one night kept telling me she was sorry. The next morning she didn't remember it and the first thing she said to me was "I'm so sorry I drank too much." Now when you go to bed, your body basically shuts down and goes to work at getting the alcohol out of your system... while this is happening trying to wake someone up who is intoxicated is like trying to wake someone up who's in a coma. You can still get worse while sleeping if you drank too much and your body may decide it needs to come up. My girlfriend passed out in front of the toilet right after puking. She doesn't even remember puking. It's very very very likely that he didn't experience any pain. After hearing about my friends loss I made sure I laid her head sideways.

Sorry for your loss. This type of death is common actually. Someone I knew in high school threw up in his sleep but luckily he had his head sideways. He doesn't remember it.

Anyways if you want to know more about what happens to you when you die there is a book I'd recommend called 90 Minutes In Heaven. It's awesome, and a true story. It also falls under the category of beyond dreaming... or even an OOBE. Like, he's technically out of his body, but it's different than the OOBE's people experience.

hmm i dont think dreams had to do with it, his neck was probably just positioned the wrong way which caused him to choke on his own saliva. Im sorry for your loss
