Sleep is huge problem for me

Sleep for me is a absolutely huge problem for me. But my sleep problems are very different from those of a lot of other people. My problem is not falling asleep...that I can do easily anytime, anywhere, and even when I donīt want to fall asleep. My problem is my extreme in ability to wake up. It has really been affecting my life now that I have a better Social life and now that I am going to have a busy schedule with AP classes and dual enrollment. I am 18 and I am a senior in highschool, am doing dual enrollment at a local university, and I am in a committed relationship of 10+ months.

I have been trying to do everyman polyphasic because I can nap very very easily and I typically have no problem throwing a couple of naps into my schedule every 6 hours...I also really need the time because I want to have some time to actually study and do homework late at night.

But I have been trying to do polyphasic with terrible results for almost a year and I have failed time and time again. One of my attempts got me pretty far and right when I felt like I was finally pulling through I went to sleep once and poof there went all my effort.

I am currently doing a one month study abroad session in Spain (ĄĄĄĄGod I love the siesta!!!!) and I get back on August 1st and start school around the 15th so I have about 2 weeks after I get back.

I am a very disciplined, motivated, and persistent person but after a year of failing at both polyphasic and lucid dreaming I am on the verge of giving up.

I just donīt know what I have to do to wake myself up. I have tried every trick in the book and it never works. Another problem is that I still live with my parents and I canīt have a million alarms going at once (which is what I usually have to do) to wake myself up.

Is there any tips you can give me to actually wake up when I need to, and is there any products you guys could recommend. I will pay almost anything for an alarm clock that actually wakes me up without waking up the rest of the house. If there is anything you guys recommend just link it...and link any articles you think might help. I will even buy a book if there is a good one...

I feel so desperate because I have been toiling away for a year without any avail. I am so tired of feeling like shit the whole day because I can typically only manage to get 5 hours of sleep a night becvause of how busy I am.

I have so much stuff I want to do with my time and I always feel like Iīm in a race against time with everything....all I need is just a little more time to do the hobbies and things that I need and want to do.

      Thanks Guys,
      Ace

ŋIs there any good vibrating alarm clocks that you clip onto your waist? I heard about that somewhere but I canīt seem to find it on google.

And also is there a vibrating watch powerful enough to wake up someone sleep deeply (I honestly am not sure that there is one that powerful).

If you want to wake yourself up, use your internal alarm clock. That one won't wake other people up. You can use your prospective memory to wake yourself up after a certain time. It works similar to MILD.

So how do you do that?

If it doesn't have to be a watch.. just something you can put in your pocket or sleep with I highly recommend getting an "Invisible Clock".

It's a small clock that can be set to vibrate or beep or both. There are three vibration levels and you can set up to 12 alarms. I often use the vibration setting on the highest level, wrap the small clock in a face towel and simply lay the clock so that it's pressed against my body. The vibration isn't "jarring" and another plus to a vibrating clock is that it doesn't disturb anyone else when it goes off (not even someone who is laying right next to me).

Below is one of the websites that sell the Invisible Clock: http://www.buddhasplace.com/Merchant...ry_Code=Clocks

I sleep with it laying next to/touching my body and it wakes me up but I'm not a really "hard" sleeper. You could always try it and return it if it didn't work for you. They have the following return policy on that website:

      Returns & Exchanges

All returns require an RMA number, please contact us via email: [email protected] or call our customer service phone number for a RMA number.

You may return merchandize within 10 days (30 days for gifts purchased in December), if it is saleable. For a Return Authorization contact us at: [email protected]

All item Must be returned with All Tags & wrapping attached and intact and must have a sales order number.

(is in airport terminal in Spain using the shittiest public terminal in the world)

Alright so I bought it directly from the manufacter cause you can get different colors and you can specify how intense you want the motor.

Im gonna try doing that facemask thing you said.

I also got a huge heavy duty bed shaker (will pull up a link later, damn one window terminal)

I really hope it works out...

PS: WOW IE6 and the worst keyboard ever....and I got 3 more hours to kill and only a couple of coins left.

I don't know if you're still reading this forum, but I had great success using an mp3 - I would sleep with noise canceling headphones on (great for sleeping during the day in the city) and the mp3 running.

It fades in with a mix of white, pink, whatever other kinds of nice soothing noises (kind of sounds like a river, rain falling on the grass, etc, all mixed into one). Then it runs for 20 minutes or so, and fades out. Just the simple action of the white noise fading away was enough to wake me up 99% of the time, and if that doesn't get you up there's like 10 minutes of progressively louder sounds that will. There are a few seconds of silence after the noise fades out, and then the next sound is from a farm - you hear some chickens clucking, and then a rooster crows I gained an aversion to hearing that damned rooster very quickly, and was always out of bed before it got that far!

I'd be more than happy to share the mp3 with you or anyone else who is interested. Use the mp3, noise canceling headphones and a sleep mask, and you can nap anywhere! No need for alarms or anything like that, all you would need is an ipod and headphones.

Also, you can easily open up the mp3 into audacity or something and modify it to add more white noise if you want your naps to be longer or shorter.
