      Everyman Polyphasic Schedule: Accelerate Adaptation?

      Hey everybody!

So I'm sure for most of you, the polyphasic sleep schedule is common knowledge. For those of you who don't, it's a sleep schedule where one has multiple periods of rest in a given day, with the intention of reducing the net amount of required sleep. Oftentimes this consists of naps (lasting about 20 minutes) that one uses to catch up on their REM sleep. This type of nap, however, requires an adaptation period, during which time your body learns to go directly to REM sleep during said naps.

I've recently decided that I want to adopt the Everyman Schedule (which will consist of one 3-hour core sleep followed by 3 x 20-minute naps throughout the day). The problem I'm facing is the fact that the Everyman Schedule takes longer to adapt to than the Uberman Schedule (6 x 20-minute naps per day), seeing as the Everyman Schedule isn't as physiologically harsh on the body and thus does not force as rapid of an adaptation.

So, I'm trying to think of ways that I could speed up this adaptation process.

My hypothesis is that I can accelerate the adaptation period by taking advantage of the Uberman's relatively quick adaptation. Before I begin using the Everyman sleep schedule, I would simply use the 6 x 20-minute naps and hopefully, my body would, under these circumstances, learn to go to immediate REM much sooner than it would if I used the Everyman schedule. Then, once I have trained my body to go to REM, I would simply start using the Everyman schedule.

What do you guys think? Would this work? Anyone around who has some experience with polyphasic sleep and can give some insight?

Thanks for listening people, it might make adopting polyphasic sleep much more rapid if this all succeeds!

I think there was a thread on the Google group a while ago discussing whether it was easier to do as you said.

The people at trypolyphasic will probably be able to give you good advice on polynapping. Whatever you try, be careful: don't kill yourself in the process!

Hey thanks! I'll try and find the thread you're talking about. Or, at the very least, try asking the people over at trypolyphasic.

Still, if anyone on these forums can give any insight, or even just their speculations, I would totally appreciate it!
