Have you Ever had a Hamster put to sleep for health complications?

I have a hamster with a large growth that has taken over one of her hind legs. She seems to be quite uncomfortable and just hides in her little house all the time. She is 2.5 year old chinese dwarf hamster. I don't usually take rodents to the vet, but if I took her, I'm thinking they'll probably euthanize her. I don't want this to happen, but it might ease her suffering.

If they are doing their jobs right, the vets are here for your hamster's sake, and they will do whatever is best for her. I think you should probably take your hamster to the vet, listen very carefully to what he has to say, and if he tells you the hamster should be put to sleep, then by all means take a moment (even some days) to think, even better: get a second professional opinion. One's life shouldn't rely on one bad doctor who misdiagnosed a condition, and I think it should be the same for your hamster.

However, if your hamster really is suffering according to one or two vets, and they all advise you to put her to sleep, I guess you should do it. I know it's a tough decision to make, but first of all, take her to the vet. You may be afraid of having to listen to somebody telling you that your hamster should be euthanized, but she might be suffering. Just take her to the vet, and by all means don't rush the decision (if the vet hastily says he should euthanize, ask him why, ask him if nothing can be done, if the hamster suffers a lot, if no meds can ease her suffering without having to put her to sleep, etc.), and if anything can be done to save her life, do it.

I hope something can be done, and I really, really wish everything will turn out alright.
