I'm sorry to hear that - I never understand why people (especially parents) think it's so dangerous and "new age." They think it's okay to dream, right? So why is it not okay to know you're dreaming??
I think ignorance (nothing personally against your mom) is a big part of it - I think they think of it has a religion or doing things like astral projection or OBEing. It's just the fear of the unknown and she only loves you and is worried about you. But education is the key - but if she doesn't want to hear you out, just don't volunteer information about your nighttime adventures! (sorry, kinda got off topic...)
