Alright, i've had problems with viruses but fortunatly I got rid of them. Unfirtunatly every so often I come across a file missing from my computer like autoplay.exe and gpedit.msc which tend to be knida important in what i'm trying to do at the time.

So heres my question: does anyone know how to get these files back without re-installing windows? Is there somewhere I could download them then reinstall them?

I know for dll files you can go to DLL-files.com, they might even have some other essential system files. Other then that, search the internet, I would bet an arm and a leg that you can find something without too much effort. I could even give you the files from my PC (assuiming they're not a PC specific file containing personal info), just email me what the location they were lost from is if you know. Good luck with windows

might be safer to grab the missing files off of the original cd's, if you have them

there's a program called expand.exe on the windows cd
      that'll decompress individual files (file.dl_ to file.dll)
      (\_ _/)
      (='.'=)
      (")_(")

There's a feature called Repair on the Windows CD which will fix your Windows system files, if you use Windows.

The repair feature repairs things while leaving all your data alone. That's why it's not a reinstall, it's a repair. It doesn't always work but when it does it does so quite well, and is great for your scenario.
