How do you animate avatars?

There are loads of cool, animated avatars in DV. How do I go about it? Are there any shareware programs for this? Can it be done in Flash? Please advise.

You have to use an animated gif to create an animated avatar. You can do it using your favorite choice of image animating software (ImageReady for me). If you have a flash animation, there should be an option to export it as an animated gif. Just make sure that it isn't too big, file size grows fast in animated gifs.

Go on File-New- There should be an option to create gifs there. The important thing to remember is not to change the picture too much or your motion will appear very jagged and inconsistent.

Just right click the image and select 'animate'.

ImageReady is quite difficult to use, if you go right at it. I suggest reading a short tutorial, just to get the hang of it. Here is some of the short stuff I've made with ImageReady:

Is that actually from a real movie? Nemo, you can try asking around in the Art Design forum for ideas. Maybe someone will even make one for you!

Thanx for the above replies. I am cooking up something in ImageReady - may take me a while (curse of perfectionism). Would love to see more avatars and animated gifs in this thread.
