      Question Windows Ficked up

I'm running Ubuntu now, and it's fine, but i'm more used to Windows, so i'm going to explain my problem.

I have trouble overheating with my laptop, like once every 3 hours or something. And one time it overheated, and I started it up as usual, but as I selected Windows from my Grub Loader, it came up the error message asking me if I wanted to boot into safe mode, last good configuration, or start normally. All three, when I click on them, will cause my laptop to reboot and do the whole thing again.
The partition is still fine, I just can't get boot up into it. I'm thinking about finding a Windows installation disk and doing a fresh install of it. But I didn't get a disk with it. If there is any way you could help me fix my Windows I would love it, Please help!

(PS, I'm not keen on sending it back to get fixed, Only as a last resort.)

If you can't even access Windows in Safe Mode then I'd say something's quite wrong.
Hard to say what, really, from just such a description. But keeping a laptop that overheats constantly and not doing anything about it is bound to end up with permanent consequences...

      Yup.

Overheating is a hardware issue. It will destroy hard drives and ultimately your processor.

I keep Hard Drive Inspector installed on my laptops:
      http://www.altrixsoft.com/en/hddinsp/

This program preemptively predicts HD failure based on a number of parameters, but most importantly continuously lets me know the HD temp and warns me when it exceeds normal.

If that computer is under warranty, you should contact them and see about getting the problem fixed.

if you have windows & linux on the same physical harddisk, back up your linux stuff before installing windows
the windows installation will right-royally bork your linux up

Can you access the Windows partition from within Ubuntu?

I never can remember a time when I could get into safe mode, it always would crash. I did have HD Tune installed and that would tell me the temperature of my Hard Disk, and would let it cool down, but it did it without much warning. And yes, I can access my Windows partition from inside Linux.

EDIT: It's possible for me to borrow a Windows Installation disk from my Aunt, and i'm not too fussed about having to install Windows again. It'll just be a fresh start for my laptop. All I had on it were a few films, music albums, books, programs and games. Nothing I can't download again.

Hmm, well, I guess the only choice is to reinstall Windows afresh after making a backup copy of all the files on the Windows partition (well, all your files, not absolutely all files).

Correct me if I'm wrong. Reinstalling Windows seems monstrous to me. All the software installations gone...gah, can't imagine how I'm going to switch to Vista. >.<

It's all worthless stuff really. If it had been pictures and things from my friends, I would be pissed, but it's nothing I can't download again.

And the only thing I find monstrous is the fact that you're thinking about installing Vista

But you said you can access the partition from your Linux. So you can copy the "useless things" anyway, just so you don't lose them.

Yeah, I'll do that when I can figure out how to connect my Zen to my laptop, I'm not sure the drivers are installed in Ubuntu's side
