Forum always up and down? MoS can help maybe?

A forum that I administrate www.freemagicschool.com (The forum section) Every now and then, the forum is off, like you go to the forum http://www.freemagicschool.com/magicforum and right now it says the 404 page.. Is this just the server off? If not how can I fix this with the settings? Maybe MoS can help?

Sounds like server issues. What hosting provider do you use? I'd recommend you file a support ticket with them telling them what's going on. I had the same problems with another forum I administrate. Is it a 404 error you're getting, or a 504? It should be resolved by your host. If they can't resolve it in a timely fashion, it may be in your best interests to find a new host.

Ok, its not my site. I just work for the owner, but yeah its a 404 error. Ill call the original owner, and tell him what you told me. thanks

http 404 means "file not found" A la, http://www.snoopy.force9.co.uk/non_existant_file either the thing (page? image?) has been moved or it's a typo

Are you absolutely positive it is a 404 error and not a 504, 503 or 500 error that you're getting? A 404 means that you typed the web address (URL) wrong, or followed a bad link. Basically, it means you've tried to access a page that is not on the server. The 500, 503 and 504 are the bane of a forum's existence. well, it dose say 404, have you tried to click on the link? Also, when you go to the main website, there is no 404. just nothing shows click on the link in my op

does it only happen with that one site? *edit* there's something screwy with the server config on that site 404 errors do not occur when navigating to obviously non-existent locations http://www.freemagicschool.com/magic..._existent_file Also, the 404 has the server sig of robustserver.com (irony?) so there's some redirection going on - ?? This is the sig of the server you're actually on http://www.freemagicschool.com/.htaccess
