(It'd be pretty stupid for a laptop not to have wired ethernet when it's wireless is provided by a manufacturer that doesn't release it's wireless driver's code - you would have no way to download your proprietary wireless drivers....)

And your ethernet is all setup and waiting to be used

That "Phone socket" you mentioned is not a phone socket
but your ethernet port
