I'm at a loss with my computer

I restarted it and then I found my mouse and keyboard have stopped working. There is power in the numlock though. I think it may be a software problem because it works in the BIOS. Usually I would've just used one to repair the other... This is my first PS3 post btw.

Sound like Windows lost your driver. Try reinstalling all of the keyboard and mouse drivers. Obviously, this will be difficult without a keyboard. If you can't get to it through voice command, you'll have to use a remove desktop client on another computer.

I tried using the driver cd that came with my computer. Both the mouse and keyboard work fine when it's run at boot though the diagnosis doesn't even detect errors to fix.

I also found a previously installed mouse didn't work. And now it says it found new hardware with my floppy drive...

Sounds like you have an awesome virus, or somehow your drivers became corrupt, which is weird.

Can your computer boot from USB memory flash nand ram thumbdrive bird things? If so, you could try configuring a Windows with some hardcore antivirus, put it on a USB, boot from it and then scan your system for virus. Which operating system are you using by the way?

That's not nice to know. I can't believe their isn't an easy method for the common computer user to use.

Well, as I said, you probably have a virus, I see no other way both keyboard and mouse drivers could get borked. You could try things like installing a new operating system on top of your current one. It will render most of your currently installed programs useless, however you won't lose any data. If you do this, I suggest you install some good anti virus software, perform a full scan and update your Windows installation.

Rakjavik, he can't operate the system, though he might be able to perform a system restore with a his Windows disc, though I only think that's a feature in Windows Vista and Windows 7 :/

Yes, there is, he could try that. I thought they only had this feature on Vista boot discs, but I was wrong.

since the driver cd doesn't work could using the repair feature on my os cd work? I don't know what it means when it asks me for an administrator password though after I hit the 1 key and enter.

There are two administrator passwords, one for windows and one for BIOS. Which one do you need?

This isn't in the BIOS so I'm guessing windows. I don't ever remember setting a password though.

Then there is no password. Just leave the box empty and hit enter.
