Do you have a separate flash card for storing photos and things?

The basic phone functions are stored on the internal storage, and you should be able to access the internal storage via the Pilot sync program

You should be no problem to sync contacts and calendar using the Palm Sync thingy
      Just use a USB cable

but if you use a separate flash card for photos, etc. I don't know whether you can read that through the sync mechanism
You may have to take it out and read it separately in a card reader

I think they both use the same back-end libraries
      just different GUIs

could be wrong, though - try them both, use the one you like / works the best
