Is this the first time you've attempted to install/use it? Have you attempted any fresh reinstalls of the program?
The only time I had a startup issue with Frostwire was after the installation of one of its dependencies locked up. Reinstallation of the dependency fixed that issue.

The first time I used it was when I stillhad Vista on my computer, dual booting Ubuntu.
I had to reinstall after I wiped everything reinstalling Ubuntu and wiping Windows.
Since then I have installed Frostwire, uninstalled it, and reinstalled to no avail.

Did you also install the newest version of Ubuntu then, after you wiped your system?

Try the following instructions from the ubuntu forums. The text in blue is just a direct copy-paste. I haven't installed Jaunty yet, so I haven't run into the issue.

      http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1153900

HOW TO: Get Frostwire to run in 9.04

If you've tried to install FrostWire 4.18 on Ubuntu 9.04 but get Fatal errors on startup, follow this short guide to get you up and running.

      1. Install "Ubuntu Restricted Extras" from Add/Remove...

      2. Go into terminal and run the following command, and choose the option corresponding to Sun Java:

      sudo update-alternatives --config java

      3. Reinstall Frostwire using the deb provided on frostwire.com

That's it. It should run now.

      Restricted Extras was already installed.
When I put the command in I got
      Code:
There is only 1 program which provides java
      (/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java). Nothing to configure.

I'm having the same problem, but haven't tried the recommended fix yet. Will do so, and see what my results are...

Do you get a similar error with the following command?

      sudo update-java-alternatives -s java-6-sun

looks like java's not setup properly

Try purging the install, and reinstalling java
      Code:
      sudo apt-get purge sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts
      Code:
      sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts
Although, personally, I'd just use a native app
I've always viewed Java GUI apps as more trouble than they're worth

      Give gtk-gnutella a go
      Code:
      sudo apt-get install gtk-gnutella
      (\_ _/)
      (='.'=)
      (")_(")

er...mine seems to have stopped in the middle of the second command....
The background turned blue, and it looks like one of those contracts you have to agree to when joining a forum or installing a game....

      Yes,
Java is under a license that needs you to agree to things

should just be a case of scrolling down and hitting the "ok" option

It wouldn't let me click "ok". and now it's saying
      Code:
"E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?"

you have another package manager open (synaptic?)
If you're happier in synaptic, just use that

You get to the OK option by pressing the right arrow
(toggles between available options & the scroll bar)
