Thread: Could not initialize the package information

I got this error after trying to install video editing software:

An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.

Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:

'E:Type 'wget' is not known on line 1 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winff.list, E:The list of sources could not be read.'

Any ideas?

One of your Apt sources is wrong
it refers to winff (which is a GUI front end to ffmpeg)
most probably you are trying to install an incompatible Debian package on your Ubuntu system

WinFF is in the standard Ubuntu repos
there shouldn't be any reason to use a different source

I think YNot meant to write

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

But it looks like that /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winff.list file is wrong. Delete it. YNot says WinFF is in the Ubuntu repos so (assuming you are on Ubuntu) you shouldn't really need a different source anyway. However if there's a good reason you put that there you might want to try again with whatever instructions you used.

EDIT: Oh, I guess from the fact that you succeeded to install kdenlive that you fixed the problems you had here? If so disregard this lol.
