So, I'm trying to dual boot windows and ubuntu, but first I have to partition my files. Whenever I try to shrink my C: drive it just hangs, or says "Your not permitted to do that" |

Are you installing Ubuntu with a CD? Back in the day when I tried, it turned out some of the files were damaged and I got the same error. In the end I just made a bootable usb drive and installed it off there. Check around if any of the files are "0kb". If they are and you're using a rewritable cd then re-burn them. If not then you'll need to do everything again. |

If you get the IOError after you've installed it, it might be that your BIOS doesn't support extended harddrives, and so the GRUB bootloader is unable to detect the linux partition and work propperly. That used to happen to me. |

April Ryan is my friend,
Every sorrow she can mend.
When i visit her dark realm,
Does it simply overwhelm.
The same thing happened to me, and I had to purchase a new hard drive. |
