First WILD attempt, How close was I?

So yeah, I got about 6 hours of sleep and then woke up early by about 10 mins before my phone went off...Then I wrote about the short little dream I had in my DJ, and then ate a few mints and starting wilding. I did the breathing method where you count your breaths and go "Breath in,1, Breath out, Im dreaming,Breath out,2, etc"...Well...I got to 350 maybe more before quitting. At first it was very hard because I kept starting over because I kept swallowing. I even started over when I had that small little small you can't really help for some reason...Anyways I got light SP after a while and didn't know I really had it till I quit but it wasn't that bad. Also I had that buzzing noise/feeling in the back of your head which went away soon after I swallowed ( I needed it really bad).

Anyways how was this for a first attempt? Any tips? Any more details you'd like to know?

Thanks, gonna try this tonight. Also I was gonna try agian after I quit but my back was killin me..

Forgot to mention during the middle of the WILD my body kept making very small jumps, like my leg would move with a very strong yet weak (since SP) jolt to just barley move. It happends all over, I tried to stop it but I couldn't, It was very small jolts, too.

Some people would say that the swallowing doesn't matter so much.

Also, When your in SP does it count as sleeping? Or is it only sleeping when you fully dreaming/ LDing?

SP is an in between stage. You aren't fully dreaming. Other people would be better at giving tips since I have never succeeded at WILD's but I've had a few spontaneous WILD's that just happened. I have read many posts on it though. I would say, try not to focus so much on your body but more on imagery.
And I've had the small jolts too. And my psychology professor told us about it in class that it's something to do with your the balance center of your brain.

The counting and talking in your head is dumb and it will only keep you awake. Don't do it if you want to lucid dream.

It sounds like after you "quit", you might have reached the very beginning of SP. But you snapped yourself out of it by focusing on the sensations too much.

So just what do you technique do you expect me to do?

I heard that it is okay to do it but you have to keep it down in mental volume. Have the mantra quietly chanting away at the back of your mind. That's what I'm told.

There's no "technique". This isn't magic. It's just falling asleep normally, without letting your mind turn to mush.

Same thing happens to me when I try to WILD. I keep twitching in different parts of my body. Kinda tickles, hehe.

Same here haha, it kept thinking it was fucking my over during the WILD though.

Tryed WILDing during a nap, only got light SP, Slight twitching, no vibrations, will try agian tonight.

This is not helping to further the discussion. Please try to help rather than mock someone who is interested in dreaming.

As far as a first attempt you did great. Just keep trying and post your results. Keeping a clear and calm mind is also helpful.

cmind, stop being immature. Zebrah doesn't think he's better than anyone else, he had a point; your earlier post was stating the obvious and didn't help the OP at all. If anyone thinks they're better than anyone else, it's you, posting replies like that to people new to LD'ing.

On topic, I sometimes get those weird little jolts. But when you're WILDing, you need a "quiet" anchor that's being passively noticed. Don't actively focus on it, just acknowledge that it's there and use it to keep you aware. Don't pay too much attention to the sensations, either.

of course there are techniques. Ignore that stupid ass below you. One that I really like is playing some low white noise when your are drifting off and performing your wild. Focus only on this noise. Do not think about the WILD or any hypnogogic lights or any of that crap. Just focus on the noise. Then when you DO start seeing hypnogogic lights, imagine a scene you want to be in. It will probably appear, and then step out of your physical body into the dream world.
There's lots of other techniques too, you should do trial and error and find the one that suits you best :)

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities; in the expert's mind there are few.

Techniques are training wheels for beginner lucid dreamers that don't have an intuitive understanding of the lucid state. It's just, "do this, do this, and do this...nevermind if you don't understand why". To the expert, there are no techniques.

You don't seem to be presenting knowledge but an opinion. There are a few main techniques but many sub techniques.

Not really... There's only DILD and WILD. And even that division doesn't stand up to scrutiny. But certainly, the sub-techniques are illusions meant to guide beginners. They're just different descriptions of the same thing.

To use an analogy, it's like guided meditation. Different guides have different narratives, but they all do the same thing to the subject.

Or to give another analogy, it's like in school when they teach arithmetic to children using word problems. They might talk about the number of apples, or slices of pie, or dollars and cents, but it's all the same thing. Arithmetic.

Another word for what I'm trying to say here is "abstraction". The expert sees beyond the minutiae of "techniques" and sees that it's really all the same thing.

Which is agreeing with what I already said; every student has different ways of getting to the truth, but the truth itself is universal. There are no "techniques" in reality.

I'm not trying to push an argument, but a different way to get to the goal, is a technique. If you just relax to get to SP but someone has to count to 100 (for them to relax as you did) its achieving the same goal, but they are two different techniques. thats technically what a technique is :D

As long as the person counting to 100 knows that it's a crutch, it's probably almost entirely placebo, and their "technique" could stop working at any time, then sure.
